Minnesota winters are hard on roofs. Ice dams, heavy snow load, and freeze-thaw cycles all start with small issues that are easy to catch now.
Before the snow starts falling, take a few minutes to walk around your house and check these off the list:
✅ Check for missing, cracked, or curling shingles
✅ Clear gutters and downspouts so meltwater has somewhere to go
✅ Look for granule buildup in gutters (a sign of shingle wear)
✅ Check attic insulation and ventilation — poor airflow is the #1 cause of ice dams
✅ Inspect flashing around chimneys, vents, and skylights
✅ Trim overhanging branches before snow load adds weight
