We’re excited to officially wrap up Nick & Nicole’s custom deck remodeling project on Browning Lane in Valparaiso, Indiana!

🔥 Another Fiberon Concordia Horizon Ipe Transformation by Durham Custom Construction! 🔥

We recently completed the main portion of this custom 12’ x 10’ composite deck built completely from the ground up, and we couldn’t be happier with how this project has come together.

We started by removing the existing gazebo and wooden privacy wall, then constructed an entirely new deck designed around premium materials, low-maintenance performance, and custom finish details.

For this project, we used Fiberon Concordia Horizon in Ipe — one of Fiberon’s premium composite decking collections. The rich variation, realistic wood grain, and dramatic streaking give Horizon Ipe the appearance of exotic hardwood while providing the durability and low maintenance homeowners expect from premium composite decking.

Some of the custom details include:

Custom Deck Project Update — Almost Finished!

We’re getting close to the finish line on this custom deck project at our own home, and I wanted to share a look at some of the details coming together.

This build features Fiberon Sanctuary Collection decking in Latte, a premium multi-tonal composite that provides the natural look and variation of wood with the durability and low maintenance of composite decking.

For the decking layout, we incorporated a custom double-board picture-frame border along with a double-board breaker running through the center of the deck. These are the types of details that create a clean, symmetrical layout and give the entire project a more custom, finished appearance.

We’ve also designed an extensive premium lighting package throughout the deck. The posts feature downward-facing dome accent lights on both sides, with additional lights incorporated around staircase and transition areas. Each post also features a hardwired illuminated post cap that casts downward light from all four sides, creating multiple layers of lighting across the deck.

Still to come are Fiberon downward accent lights along the fascia, as well as four integrated USB charging ports strategically placed around the deck for convenient outdoor charging.

There are still some stairs, fascia, railings, lighting, and finishing details to complete, but we’re almost there. We’ll be sharing plenty of photos once everything is completely finished!

Final stretch on this custom composite deck remodel! 🔨

Here’s a look at some of our progress over the past week as we bring this project across the finish line. We’re down to approximately one final day, completing the remaining picture-frame boards on the stair system, installing the last few riser lights, and taking care of the final finishing details.

This project has been much more than simply replacing deck boards. It has involved extensive custom carpentry, including a complete staircase buildout, multiple landings and stair transitions, picture-framed composite decking and stair treads, full composite fascia wrapping, detailed corner work, and an integrated Fiberon lighting system throughout the deck and stairways.

One of our biggest priorities at Durham Custom Construction is the detail work. With a project like this, every transition, miter, border, fascia joint, stair tread and lighting location has to work together so the finished product looks intentional from every angle.

These are still progress photos, and there are a few areas you’ll see that aren’t completed yet. We’ll be sharing the fully finished project once the last boards and lighting are installed and everything receives its final cleanup.

🚧 Project Update – Final Stages of This Custom Composite Deck Build in Valparaiso 🚧

We’re heading into the final week on this large custom composite deck project here in Valparaiso, and everything is really starting to come together. 🔨✨

At this stage, we have about 80% of the railing installed, and we’re finishing up the electrical work for the railings, post lighting, stair lighting, fascia lighting, and lower deck lighting. 💡

We also installed a built-in USB charging port directly into one of the railing posts — giving the homeowners a convenient place to charge phones or devices while they’re outside enjoying the space. 📱⚡

This project includes:

✅ Lights in all the deck posts
✅ Stair riser lighting
✅ Fascia lighting
✅ Landing area lighting
✅ Lower deck lighting
✅ Custom pyramid-style steps
✅ Built-in USB charging station

This week we’ll be wrapping up the landing electrical, the pyramid step details, the lower deck lighting, and the final trim-out. 🛠️

Once everything is complete, we’ll be posting final daytime photos, along with evening photos so you can see the full lighting package lit up at night. 🌅🌙💡

We’re very proud of how this project is turning out. A lot of planning, layout, framing, electrical prep, and detail work goes into a project like this, and we take pride in making sure every part is done clean, solid, and built to last. 🧰📐

Another big milestone on one of our largest deck remodeling projects to date!

The composite decking has officially been delivered, and we’re ready for the next phase. This complete deck transformation includes brand-new Fiberon composite decking along with a custom three-zone low-voltage lighting system. We recently completed all of the electrical work, installing three independent transformers so each level of the deck can be illuminated separately for both functionality and ambiance.

Starting Monday, we’ll begin installing the new composite decking and bringing this project to life. We can’t wait to share the progress and the finished transformation.

🏡 Another Beautiful Flooring Remodel Completed! 🏡

Another satisfied customer in Cambridge Estates – Munster, Indiana!

This project was a complete flooring remodel of approximately 1,300 square feet, and we’re proud of how it turned out.

Project Scope:
✔️ Removed all existing carpet throughout the unit.
✔️ Demolished and removed ceramic tile in the foyer, kitchen, and both bathrooms.
✔️ Performed complete dust-controlled mortar and adhesive removal using commercial dust extraction, grinders, and floor buffers.
✔️ Ground down high spots and applied self-leveling underlayment where needed to create a flat, solid substrate.
✔️ Installed LifeProof Premium 22-mil Luxury Vinyl Plank featuring a lifetime residential warranty and a 20-year commercial wear warranty.
✔️ Installed matching shoe molding throughout the home, including custom matching maple shoe molding around the existing kitchen cabinetry.
✔️ Thoroughly vacuumed and cleaned the home throughout every phase of the project.

The only remaining items are the installation of the customer’s new modern comfort-height toilets once they arrive. We’ll return for those and then take final furnished photos of the completed condo.

🔨 PROJECT UPDATE – VALPARAISO DECK & PERGOLA RENOVATION 🔨

Sometimes a deck remodeling project reveals issues that can’t be seen until demolition begins.

As we began this complete two-tier deck renovation, we discovered significant rot at the bases of the pergola support posts. Rather than simply covering the problem, we worked with the homeowners to provide a permanent structural repair.

To safely replace the posts, we first constructed temporary support walls to carry the weight of the pergola while each post was removed individually. New concrete piers were then poured, post base brackets were installed to elevate the wood above future moisture exposure, and new support posts were installed one at a time while maintaining the structural integrity of the pergola throughout the process.

With the structural repairs complete, we are continuing the transformation with:

✔ Complete Fiberon composite decking installation
✔ Additional framing reinforcement throughout the structure
✔ Three-zone low-voltage lighting system allowing independent control of the upper deck, lower deck, and stair lighting
✔ Full modernization of this outdoor living space
