Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW), more commonly known as stick welding, remains one of the most trusted and widely used welding methods in commercial construction, structural steel, and restoration work.

This process uses a flux-coated electrode rod connected to an electrode holder that carries electrical current from the welder. Once the rod touches the metal surface, it creates an electric arc capable of generating extreme heat—hot enough to melt both the base metal and the electrode itself. As the materials cool, they fuse together to create a strong, durable weld.

The flux coating on the rod plays a critical role by shielding the molten weld pool from contamination caused by oxygen and other elements in the air. This helps produce cleaner, stronger welds in a variety of working conditions.
