Over the next few weeks, ruby throated hummingbirds will be passing through Louisiana as they go south for the winter. If you haven't been maintaining your feeders, clean them thoroughly and fill them with fresh nectar.
For a homemade nectar use one-part white sugar to four parts water and bring that to a rolling boil. Once cooled, put it in your feeder and change it every 1-3 days to prevent spoilage. Never use brown sugar, artificial sweeteners or honey in a hummingbird feeder as it can harm the birds!
