This is why I love curating natural gardens using nothing but the craziest, weirdest and coolest shapes that nature provides that I can get my hands on!

"Deadscaping" is something I've been pioneering over the years using these materials that have begun to break down, yet provide multiple dynamic benefits by incorporating them into a gardens layout and function.

Dead woods/branches/logs/twigs can all provide a wide range of structural, aesthetic, functional and season long benefits depending on the context of how they are used.

Dead logs with open crevasses like this one pictured provide a perfect living planter; As the wood begins to break down, it feeds the soil in preparation for the vegetation to spread its roots.

It also houses a plethora of microherd, beneficial bacterium, fungi, critters and creatures all working together to create your green spaces ecosystem.

Long story short; Nature is awesome, provides cool stuff to plant in, makes birds and bugs happy, big chilling energy! 💚

Finally, I can take my hoodie off now that it's warm enough! 😁🌞🤣

For those unaware; Even with the highest heat index possible and temperatures exceeding 115 degrees, Down Under Gardening will still be outside getting our hands dirty and our thumbs green no matter the heat.

Growing up in Australia we are masters of how to stay cool and safe in the unrelenting heat of the sun.

Next time your service provider cancels because of the heat to stay indoors under the AC, just know we will be outside with a smile on our face soaking up the sun and having a blast in your garden!

Expect another hot and humid day today! We'll also be keeping an eye on some showers and storms (20-30% chance) this evening, some of which could become severe. Remember to stay hydrated, take frequent breaks, and check up on relatives!

We love a good mow-job, but who doesn’t!? 😋🦘

In the natural gardening world though, I do cop a lot of flak because I still love mowing a schlick lawn.

A little behind the scenes compost lesson here at our HQ site preparing to update new infrastructure for our Australian operations! 🌱

For those back home in the USA, prior to moving to Council Bluffs I had to temporarily put my Australian operations on hold until everything was established and running smoothly stateside.

Now that we're fully established in the USA, its time to reestablish our work back in Australia.

Compost and living soil is the absolute foundation of everything we do at Down Under Gardening; Its the foundation for everything that your plants and gardens do too!

This year I will be producing an abundance of content getting into these concepts and how easily it is to establish these systems at home, easily and most importantly cost effectively!

Our 2026 stateside season is about to kick back off April 1st
