Stove season is closer than it feels.

If you're running a wood stove, now's the time to clean you chimney and check your tolerances, before it's cold enough that you want it working tonight.

And if you've been thinking about adding one, ask before autumn. It's a much easier conversation in August than in October.

Maryland's new state park, Savage Highlands State Park, has just opened to the public and they are taking reservations for four of the eight Pacific Yurts on site. Yurt Owners: Before the weather turns, give your top and side covers five minutes.

Walk the outside and look at: seams, anywhere a branch has grown in close enough to rub, debris sitting where the roof meets the wall, and your dome seals.

None of it is urgent in August. All of it is a headache in December.
