That little screw in your strike plate can make a big difference in the security of your door.
Many strike plates are installed with short screws that only extend about ½ inch into the door jamb. That means the screws are primarily holding onto the relatively thin wood of the jamb—not the stronger framing behind it.
In a forced-entry situation, that can leave the door much more vulnerable to being kicked open, because the jamb and short screws can give way fairly easily.
🔨 This is where 3-inch screws make a difference.
When properly installed, longer screws can extend through the door jamb and deeper into the wood framing/studs surrounding the doorway. Instead of relying primarily on the thin jamb, the strike plate is anchored into much stronger structural material.
That extra reinforcement can make the door significantly harder to kick in and adds another layer of protection to your home.
