10 SAFETY TIPS TO HELP PREVENT HOME BREAK-INS
▪️Make your home look occupied. Install WIFI operated light switches and electrical outlets which allow you to turn on/off lights and other devices from your cellular phone even when you are away from home.
▪️Lock all outside doors and windows before you leave the house or go to bed.
▪️Keep your garage door closed and locked. Side garage doors too.
▪️Install motion sensor lights along the perimeter of your home. Lights are always an excellent deterrent for burglars.
▪️Check your locks on doors and windows and make sure they are working properly. Replace them with secure devices as necessary.
▪️Pushbutton locks on doorknobs are easy for burglars to open. Install deadbolt locks on all your outside doors. On shorter gates install deadbolt locks with key holes on both sides.
▪️Sliding glass doors are vulnerable. Special locks are available for better security. Even a simple broom stick or PVC pipe across the slide track will make it harder for burglars.
▪️Consider installing a security system monitored by an alarm company which notifies police when the alarm system is tripped. Ring doorbells are another alternative, they have a camera and you can receive alerts and monitor from your phone.
▪️Lock the side access gate to the rear yard. Burglars usually target homes with unlocked side access gates.
▪️Most importantly, don’t share your vacation plans on social media!
