Last call for summer color.

These beds have been going since May, and in a few weeks our maintenance crew will pull every one of them and set the fall palette in their place. That's the part nobody sees. The boxwood, the vines trained up the brick, the clean stone walk all stay put through every swap. That structure is what gives the seasonal color something to sit inside of, which is why an entry like this reads just as intentional in November as it does today.

Ring of fire.

Swipe and you'll see what this yard looked like when we started. Dead grass, bare dirt to the fence line, and patio furniture still wrapped in plastic. We set the grade first, ran a line of columnar evergreens down the fence for privacy, laid the stone, then placed the fire pit where it would pull the most seating around it.

The window does the talking. We handle the frame.

A multi-trunk specimen tree sits just off the corner of the house, close enough to soften the stucco without hiding it. Below it, soft silver-green perennials and low boxwood layer up against clean turf so the composition holds from the street and from the front step. Good landscape design knows when to step back and let the architecture have its moment.

Everything in this swipe is a rendering, built in long before a single tree goes in the ground. We model the drive, the gates, the planting, even the way afternoon light falls across the motor court. That way a family can walk their landscape and change their mind while changing it is still easy. By the time we break ground, everyone already knows exactly what they are getting.

Now a steel and cedar pergola throws patterned shade across ipe decking, and a stacked stone fire feature runs its flame just a few feet from the water's edge. Every material here was chosen to hold up to Texas weather and look better doing it.

A dark stone spillway feeds a quiet basin at the base of a grand staircase, with mature trees rising just behind it. Every line here, from the steps to the retaining wall, was drawn to lead the eye toward home.

Ornamental grasses spill over the edge of a decomposed granite trail, and a stand of specimen trees frames the view ahead. Grading like this does not happen by accident. Every curve was placed to slow you down and make you look up.
