Inside job.

Our backyards get the spotlight, but a lot of the work happens right here. Long before grading starts or the first tree goes in the ground, our team is at the drafting table, building schedules, chasing details, and walking through plans with our crew. It’s a lot of coffee and a lot of care, and it’s the part you don’t usually get to see.

Mind the gap.

Strips of turf run between broad concrete pads, turning a simple walk across the yard into something with rhythm. A stone planter brimming with color anchors the middle, and a long stone retaining wall gives the whole space its backbone. Plenty of room to spread out on a warm afternoon, and a clear path back to the covered patio when the sun gets serious.

Sweater weather.

Or Texas' version of it, anyway. The pumpkins are stacked on the hearth, the logs are loaded, and this brick fireplace is ready for its favorite season. Two chairs pulled close is all a cool evening asks for.

Hang time.

Woven pendants overhead, hanging chairs below, and nowhere to be on a Friday evening. This is how we'd spend the weekend if it were up to us.

A great outdoor space starts at the kitchen table.

Before we draw a single line, we sit down with you and talk about how you actually live. Where the morning coffee happens. Where the kids will run. How many chairs the courtyard needs on a Saturday night. That's the real value of working with a landscape architect. You get someone designing the experience of being outdoors, from the first step out the door to the last seat at the table. Spaces like this courtyard start with that conversation.

She doesn't have a bad angle.

Go ahead, swipe and check. From the street, a deep lawn and clipped foundation planting keep the whole facade grounded. Closer in, two trees frame the arched front doors and pink blooms spill over the beds along the walk. It's the first thing guests see and the last thing the family sees every night.

Three of a kind.

Three scuppers set into a stone wall, pouring in unison under a canopy of oak and pine at Cherokee Trail. Turf runs right up to the edge, so the whole corner reads as lawn first and water second. Quiet, steady, and very easy to sit beside for an hour on a Friday.

Modern, with a soft side.

Steel and stucco up top, but down here it's all lawn, oversized concrete pads set in gravel, and a wall of bamboo that hides the neighbors completely. A few agaves in the corners keep it honest to Texas. Then the lights come on and the whole yard turns into the best room on the property.

Which side are you on: clean lines like this, or let it grow a little wild?

My dad, Sid Osterberger, went home to the Lord on September 25. He was an artist with gifted hands, Mom's husband for 52 years, and the first to show up whenever someone needed him. So much of who I am, I learned from watching him.

Today we lay him to rest in Baton Rouge. Thank you for holding our family in your prayers.

We’re going to miss you, Pops. Love you.

You make the living. We'll make the living worthwhile.

Long week? Here's where it ends. A stone fire pit glowing in the courtyard, a covered lounge with a seat for everyone, and warm wood screening that keeps it all feeling tucked away. Pull up a chair and let the fire take it from here.
