We recently got a call from Mark Molchany of RE/MAX Unlimited Real Estate to help one of his sellers take care of a few electrical troubles that came up before closing.

Sometimes it’s the little things that can hold up a closing — and that's where having the right electrician on your team can make all the difference.

🏠⚡ LEBANON, PA — WE'RE MAKING PROGRESS! ⚡🏠

The Daly Electric crew has been putting in the work on this house in Lebanon, PA, and we're making some serious progress!

We've been able to old-work most of the walls, getting new wiring where it needs to go and running new wire to the outlets and switches. It's always satisfying when an older house starts getting a fresh electrical system — one wall and one box at a time! 🔌🔨

Here you can see the second bedroom — which will soon become an office. 💻

While working in the attic, we also found a taped-off wire that was just hanging out up there. Rather than leave it as a mystery, we put in a proper new wire and box for a future ceiling fan. 💨⚡

And we're thinking ahead, too!

Since the home doesn't have central air yet, there's a good chance the homeowners will be using window air conditioners. We ran 20-amp circuits to each room to provide some extra electrical capacity for today's needs and help handle those additional loads. ❄️🔌

But now…

⏰ THE TIME CRUNCH IS ON!

Move-in day is getting closer, and we've got a schedule to keep!

We'll be back again this week to keep pushing forward and help these homeowners stay on track for their move.

That's one of the things we love about this business — sometimes it's not just about doing the electrical work. It's about thinking ahead, doing it right, and working with the homeowner and other trades to keep the entire project moving. 👍

🚨⚡ BEFORE ➡️ AFTER… NOW THAT’S A NEW LOOK! ⚡🚨

We decided it was time to give the Daly Electric pickup a little makeover… and WOW, what do you think?! 😎🛻⚡

The truck went from a plain white pickup to a rolling Daly Electric billboard! Our logo, our colors, our phone number, and that unmistakable Daly Electric look are now out there on the road with us every day.

And we have to give a HUGE THANK YOU to Scribbles and Drips! 👏

They were absolutely outstanding to work with from start to finish. They took our ideas, turned them into a design that really represents Daly Electric, and did an incredible job putting it all together.

We're pretty excited every time we see this truck sitting in the driveway! 😂

🚜⚡ POWER TO THE SHED! ⚡🌱

Sometimes you don't realize how much you need electricity in the shed… until all your lawn equipment runs on batteries! 🔋😂

Our customer had a great shed and plenty of new battery-powered lawn equipment, but there was just one problem:

No place to charge the batteries!

So Daly Electric went to work. ⚡

We used the Ditch Witch to trench across the yard, installed PVC conduit underground, ran the electrical to the shed, and then backfilled the trench.

Take a look at the pictures — the lawn is already looking pretty good, and it's just about ready for grass seed! 🌱

We were able to get the power where it needed to go without leaving the yard looking like a construction site.

And once again, we want to give a big THANK YOU to Action Rental for providing us with some great equipment. That Ditch Witch made this project much cleaner and more efficient!

The project came out GREAT! 👏⚡

We've got pictures of the inside of the shed too… but you'll have to wait for another post to see what we did in there! 😉🔌

🚚⚡ THROWBACK THURSDAY: THE TRUCKS OF DALY ELECTRIC! ⚡🚚

We went digging through the old pictures for another Throwback Thursday, and this time we decided to take a trip through Daly Electric's truck history!

We searched EVERYWHERE for a picture of the old Dodge van… and apparently, it has officially disappeared into the history books! 😂

Well… almost.

If you look closely at the first group of pictures, you can see just the front end of it hiding in the background. That's the best we've been able to find!

Then there's the old pickup truck. 🛻

That truck was a 1996, but I bought it used in 1998. And judging by the picture of me standing in front of it, I think it's pretty safe to say I was VERY proud of that truck! 😂

That old pickup stayed with Daly Electric for a LONG time. It was finally decommissioned — or more accurately, sold — in 2025!

Then came the "new" white van, which you've probably seen recently after we finally got it lettered. 🚐⚡

And soon, we'll have pictures of the new pickup truck, lettered by Scribbles and Drips!

But here's the funny thing…

All of those work trucks have one common theme:

🚚 THEY ALL CAME FROM JOE BALL.

For decades, I bought my work trucks through Joe. He was the best — Mr. Huge! 😂

For those of you who knew Joe, you know exactly what I'm talking about. And for those who knew him and miss him, these trucks are just another little reminder of the many years and memories connected to him.

Decades of Daly Electric trucks… all from Joe. ❤️

The newest pickup is the first one we've gotten from Roth Auto, and so far, it's been great!

It's funny how something as simple as a work truck can bring back so many memories — where you were in the business, what jobs you were doing, who you were working with, and the people who helped you along the way.

From an old Dodge van you can barely see in a picture…
to a proud young guy standing beside his 1996 pickup…
to today's trucks carrying Daly Electric into the future.

Another fun trip down memory lane! 🕰️⚡

🚜⚡ WATCH THIS DITCH WITCH GO! ⚡🚜

This is what happens when you have the right equipment for the job!

Our Ditch Witch from Action Rental is trenching along the yard perfectly! 👌

Take a look at the video and you can really see how narrow the trench is — only about 5 inches wide — while the machine neatly pushes the dirt off to the left as it works its way down the yard.

That's exactly what we were looking for.

Instead of tearing up a large section of the customer's property, we can get our trench to the required depth while keeping the disturbed area to a minimum. 👍

Clean, efficient, and doing exactly what we rented it to do!

⚠️⚡ THROWBACK WIRING CAN HIDE SOME BIG SURPRISES! ⚡⚠️

We recently started working on a home where the new homeowners discovered something they had no idea was there — knob-and-tube wiring.

Our original call was pretty straightforward: investigate some 2-prong outlets and determine whether they could be properly grounded.

But as we started tracing the wiring, we found the old system running through the house. Eventually, we discovered knob-and-tube wiring hidden beneath the attic floorboards, including the splice you see in this picture.

And that's when the investigation got a lot more interesting. 👀

We also found portions of the house with 3-prong receptacles, particularly near windows. Our suspicion is that at some point, previous homeowners needed places to plug in window air conditioners and changed the receptacles to accommodate them.

Here's the problem:

🔌 A 3-prong outlet does NOT automatically mean you have a proper equipment ground.

Knob-and-tube wiring was an older wiring method designed for a very different time. It generally has no equipment grounding conductor, and decades of age can also leave insulation deteriorated or damaged.

Adding a 3-prong receptacle to an ungrounded circuit without providing an appropriate grounding solution can create a false sense of safety. A modern appliance with a metal case depends on proper grounding or another approved protective method to help clear a fault.

And window air conditioners deserve special attention. They can draw a substantial amount of current, especially when the compressor starts. If someone has modified an old circuit to accommodate a larger modern load without verifying the circuit's wiring, overcurrent protection, connections, and overall condition, that can create a serious problem.

The issue isn't simply that old wire is "old." The real concern is what the wiring is, how it was installed, its condition, what loads are connected to it, and whether the system has the safety features required for today's equipment.

This is exactly why we're always telling homeowners:

Don't assume everything is safe just because the lights work.

Sometimes what's hiding behind the walls — or underneath the attic floor — tells a very different story.

This particular project isn't even in our normal service area — it's in Lebanon! But we're happy to follow where the work takes us.

🚜⚡ Sometimes the right equipment makes all the difference! ⚡🚜

Recently, Daly Electric needed to install a trench that would get us 3 feet deep — deep enough to meet code requirements and get below the frost line.

Rather than digging up a huge section of the customer's yard, we headed over to Action Rental in Allentown and rented the right tool for the job: a Ditch Witch that could cut a trench approximately 5 inches wide and 3 feet deep.

The result? A nice, clean trench with minimal disturbance to the property. We didn't want to leave the customer with a yard full of torn-up ground just to get the electrical work done properly. 👍

This is one of the reasons we appreciate having a great local rental company like Action Rental nearby.

Every time we've rented equipment from them, the machines have been well-maintained, clean, and practically like new. They're also easy to operate, which makes a big difference when we're trying to get the job done efficiently.
