Felt good to be back in the shop again. Things have been pretty busy lately, so projects have been few and far between. Dusted the off and turned a new handle for this beautiful antique from some scrap . I added a ferrule for strength and a top to absorb mallet blows. Hopefully, this will outlive me and the next generation can get some use out if it!💪

Made with only the finest leftover, discarded chunks of and and finished with traditional this quick little build now means I don't trip over my shoes when I walk into my room...on an unrelated note, my shop seems to be super messy now...no idea why🤷‍♂️🙃

Tried my hand at a seat for the first time!! A bit tedious but once you get going you kind of find a nice rhythm to it. Sidenote...if you're looking to bulk up your forearms this is the you've been looking for!😂

All in all, inspired stool came out great! Now it's time to make a big brother for it as a nice entryway bench. Stay tuned!

In the next chapter of the stuff you can sit on series, I bring you a pair of stools made from basic construction grade lumber.

Just for fun, I built one with and one stool almost exclusively with ...can you tell the difference?

I think I paid a whole $8 for those little nameplates...everything else was found or dug out of the scrap bin🙃

I've been feeling inspired lately by like this low stool. I used some leftover from my previous audio rack project for the seat and I salvaged from a kitchen reno project a few years back to make the legs and stretchers.

The process was a lot easier than I thought (chairs always scared me a bit with all the angles and intersecting pieces😬🤷‍♂️), and I really enjoyed being able to use almost exclusively! This design was based off of Christpoher Schwarz's Irish Creepie Stool.

I think I'm officially hooked on this style...so expect to see more stuff in the near future!!

Feeling inspired by Art Press I decided to have a go at the low stool with hand tools...mostly. In part 1 I prep and glue up the seat, leg, and stretch...

Making ends on a large flat surface is a very traditional way of hiding and mitigating in wood all while helping to keep the whole thing nice and flat!

You start by creating a all the way across the ends of the main surface, then cutting away to reveal several smaller haunched tenons. After that, you create the moritses in the end piece to match, drill holes through everything and bring it together with some dowels.

The key is only gluing the middle tenon and making the mortises on the ends wider. This allows for the main board to expand and contract without breaking the end pieces. A lot of work, but an interesting process!!
