Here I walk through my process of mixing and spraying Centurion Wood Coatings 1111 water-based primer on kitchen cabinet doors! 🚪
*
I start by measuring everything by weight, adding 5% Centurion 4002 hardener (making it a 2K), and getting my Graco 490XT, Powershot and 308fflp tip dialed in! 🙌
*
From spray pressure and gun distance to consistent speed and overlapping passes, every little detail matters when you’re trying to achieve a smooth, even finish! 🎯

The goal isn’t just to get primer on the door. It’s to create a consistent foundation that makes the next steps of the refinishing process easier! 🤜💥🤛

Part 3: Sanding kitchen cabinet doors ✨

SMOOTH doesn’t always mean FLAT! There’s a difference, and this is a big part of my cabinet refinishing process 🤘🫎🤘
*
To get a flat surfaces, I start with a hard backing pad to cut down the high spots. That helps level the surface before I start building up the low areas with the next steps.
*
That’s why you see some of the old coating coming off while other areas remain. There’s a reason behind the process 🤜💥🤛
*
Tools used:
• 5” 3M Xtract 2.5mm sander with 180 grit
• Uneeda Ekasand with 180-grit SurfPrep Blizzard and a hard backing pad
• Uneeda Ekaforce for tight edges
• SurfPrep 3x4 with fine 1/2” ProFoam
• Dental pick to clear the gaps and bevel the edges to help prevent coating bridges

Did you know there was a difference between sanding FLAT and sanding SMOOTH? 🤷‍♂️

Part 2: Cleaning kitchen cabinet doors 🚪🧽

People rush this step… but I’m taking my sweet time! A great cabinet finish starts with a clean, solid base 🙌
*
Removing grease and grime helps your primer adhere AND keeps your sandpaper from getting gunked up during that first sand. Clean first. Sand second. Your abrasives will thank you 😂
*
Give those edges, corners, and areas around the handles some extra love. That buildup loves to hide 💪

Part 1: How to dismantle and label kitchen cabinet doors 🚪🤘🫎

Here’s my process for removing kitchen cabinet doors for refinishing, labeling everything correctly, batching the doors, transporting them back to the shop, and getting them racked up.
*
Labeling cabinet doors and hinges correctly is HUGE. 🙌
*
Every door needs to go back in the exact same location, and I even keep the upper and lower hinges matched to their original hinge pockets.
*
Taking a few extra minutes during dismantling can save you a TON of time and frustration when reinstalling refinished cabinet doors. 🙏
