Please be aware with the lack of rainfall we are experiencing, we’re seeing some heat stress in the lawns, so please take a minute to check your sprinkler system and make sure it is coming on and properly covering any areas that are starting to brown.
Also, double-check your watering schedule. During the summer heat, your system should be running twice a week—not three times a week. On each of those two watering days, be sure to run your sprinkler system through three cycles.
Recommended run times for each cycle:
• Stationary spray heads (non-rotating): 7–10 minutes, ideally closer to 10 minutes during the heat of the summer
• Rotary heads: approximately 20 minutes, since they put out water more slowly
If you make these adjustments and still notice heat stress in certain areas, add a few extra minutes to only those zones that are struggling. Do not add a third watering day.
We’re seeing some lawns being watered three days a week with fewer cycles and shorter run times. We’re also seeing systems set to water twice a week but running only two cycles on those watering days. Neither provides the deep, thorough watering the lawn needs during the summer heat
