Fire ant foragers are worker ants that leave the underground nest to search for food. They use chemical scent trails (pheromones) to recruit nestmates to large food sources, eating a wide variety of items including dead insects, sugars, and oils
Individual scout ants search the surface for food, then lay a pheromone trail back to the nest to guide worker squad.
Beyond foraging, the Red Imported Fire Ant (Solenopsis invicta) possesses incredibly advanced social structures and survival mechanisms that make them one of the most resilient invasive species on Earth.
Originally from South America, they accidentally arrived in the U.S. in the 1930s via cargo ships

Solenopsis Invicta or Red Imported Fireant

Key CharacteristicsAppearance: Small ants measuring 1/8 to 1/4 inch long, featuring a dark reddish-brown color.
Behavior: Highly aggressive when disturbed; they clamp on with their jaws and deliver a painful, repeated sting that causes burning, rashes, and white pustules.
Nests: Build large dome-shaped dirt mounds in open, sunny areas like lawns, fields, and near structural foundations.

The crazy world of pests!
The ghost ant (Tapinoma melanocephalum) is one of a growing number of exotic insects emerging as pests in the United States and Canada.
The ants tend to move erratically. Their “ghostlike” bodies are especially difficult to see in low light. Workers have the smell of rotting coconuts when crushed.
While they do not sting and rarely bite, they are a major household nuisance due to their ability to aggressively contaminate food and their tendency to build stubborn, multiple-nest colonies inside wall voids and cabinets.

Paper wasps are displaying increased seasonal and environmental aggression due to rising summer temperatures, prolonged heat waves, and rapid colony growth. While their baseline genetics have not fundamentally mutated to make them
“meaner,” changing climate patterns and seasonal shifts alter their behavior, making them significantly more reactive to homeowners.
