Here is the quick breakdown of the two biggest threats:

Formosan Termites 🔥
• Danger Level: Catastrophic damage in as little as 2 years
• Colony Size: Up to 10 million bugs (massive super-colonies!)
• Appetite: Fastest-eating species; destroys wood at 10x the speed of others
• Nesting: Can nest above ground (carton nests) if moisture is present

Subterranean Termites 🪓
• Danger Level: Severe structural damage over 3 to 5 years
• Colony Size: Up to 300,000 bugs per colony
• Appetite: Eats about 1 pound of wood per day
• Nesting: Strictly lives underground and travels via mud tubes

Roof rats (Rattus rattus), also known as black rats or ship rats, are sleek, agile rodents known for preferring elevated nesting spaces.

Physical Characteristics
Size: 6 to 8 inches long (body), with a total length of 12 to 18 inches including the tail.

Appearance: Pointed nose, large ears, large eyes, and smooth fur ranging from black and dark brown to light gray with a lighter belly.

Nesting: Prefer upper parts of buildings (attics, rafters, roof voids) and trees or dense vegetation rather than ground burrows.

Climbing: Excellent climbers; frequently travel across utility lines, fences, and roofs.

Entry: Can squeeze through tiny openings as small as a half-inch (the size of a nickel or quarter).

Fire Hazards: They frequently chew through plastic coating on electrical wiring, exposing bare wires and creating major short-circuit fire risks

Quick FactsAppearance:

They are reddish-brown, about 1/8 of an inch long, and covered in tiny hairs.Movement: They run rapidly and change directions in a chaotic, unpredictable way.

Supercolonies:

Unlike normal ants, their colonies have many queens and do not fight other crazy ant colonies.

Problems They CauseElectrical Failures:

They nest inside air conditioners, fuse boxes, and computers. Large groups short-circuit equipment because dying ants release a pheromone that attracts even more ants to the site.

Displacing Native Species:

They swarm areas, push out native ants, and harm local wildlife like birds and lizards.
