🌧️ Tropical Depression Edouard — Damage & Impact Update

Tropical Depression Edouard has brought significant impacts to Southeast Texas and parts of Southwest Louisiana after making landfall near the Texas–Louisiana border.

📍 Reported impacts include:
• 🌊 Heavy rainfall and flash flooding, with some areas receiving 10–21 inches of rain in just a few hours
• 🌳 Downed trees and power lines across Southeast Texas
• ⚡ Widespread power outages, with tens of thousands of customers affected
• 🚧 Flooded roads and dangerous travel conditions
• 🏠 Damage to homes and businesses, including reported structural and property damage in the Beaumont–Port Arthur area
• 🚑 Emergency crews have conducted water rescues in flooded areas
• 🏫 Schools and some municipal facilities have closed because of flooding, debris, and power outages

A Flash Flood Emergency was issued for portions of Hardin and Tyler counties as dangerous flooding continued Wednesday.

Even though Edouard has weakened to a tropical depression, flooding remains the primary concern, and additional rainfall could worsen conditions in already saturated areas.

⚠️ If you have storm damage, do not put yourself in danger to inspect it. Stay away from downed power lines and flooded roads, and follow local emergency instructions.

📸 If safe, residents can document storm damage for insurance and official damage assessments.

🌧️ Tropical Storm Edouard Update 🌧️

Tropical Storm Edouard is strengthening as it approaches the Upper Texas and Louisiana coast. Heavy rain, strong wind gusts, flash flooding, and storm surge are the main concerns today.

🌊 Rainfall: 3–6 inches, with locally higher amounts possible
💨 Edouard could briefly reach hurricane strength before landfall
⚠️ Flooding may become especially dangerous in low-lying areas and along the coast
🚗 Please avoid driving through flooded roads and stay tuned to local emergency alerts.

A tropical disturbance over the northern Gulf of Mexico is becoming better organized and is being monitored for possible tropical depression or tropical-storm development. The system is currently about 125 miles south of southeastern Louisiana and is expected to move westward toward the Upper Texas or southwestern Louisiana coast.

The primary concern is heavy rainfall, with periods of thunderstorms and gusty winds possible. Southeast Texas and southwest Louisiana could experience locally significant rainfall beginning Tuesday and continuing through the week.

At this time, the system's exact strength and track remain uncertain. Residents and operations along the Upper Texas and Louisiana coasts should continue monitoring National Hurricane Center and local National Weather Service updates.

Recommended Action: Maintain situational awareness, review flood and severe-weather preparedness, and be prepared for changing conditions as the system approaches the coast.

The tropics are beginning to get more active as we move deeper into August, but there is currently no tropical cyclone threatening the Gulf Coast.

🌊 GULF OF MEXICO:
No active tropical system is currently in the Gulf. High pressure remains an important influence across the region, helping limit organized tropical development near the Gulf Coast.

🌴 ATLANTIC:
Several areas of disturbed weather are being monitored across the tropical Atlantic. Conditions are not currently favorable for significant development in the near term, but the overall pattern bears watching as we approach the climatological peak of hurricane season.

👀 WHAT WE'RE WATCHING:
• Tropical waves moving westward across the Atlantic
• Increasingly warm ocean temperatures
• Changes in wind shear and upper-level winds
• Whether disturbances can organize as they move farther west

⚠️ BOTTOM LINE:
No immediate Gulf threat — but August through September is when we really begin watching the tropics closely. A quiet day can change quickly when conditions become favorable.

Several tropical waves are currently moving off the west coast of Africa into the Atlantic's Main Development Region (MDR). While this is a normal part of the peak hurricane season, it's still too early to determine if any of these systems will develop.

Much of the United States is experiencing dangerous summer heat this week. Heat advisories are in effect across parts of Texas, the Gulf Coast, the Mid-South, and portions of the Central U.S., with heat index values climbing as high as 110°F in some areas. Please limit outdoor activities during the hottest part of the day, stay hydrated, and check on family, neighbors, and pets.

Meanwhile, a weather system moving across the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic is bringing the threat of heavy rain, flash flooding, and strong thunderstorms through midweek. If you're in these areas, stay weather-aware and never drive through flooded roadways.

Current forecasts indicate Tropical Storm Bertha is expected to move inland across south-central Louisiana before tracking northwest toward east Texas. Areas along and near the projected path should prepare for periods of heavy rainfall, gusty winds, and the potential for localized flooding.
