Annual bluegrass, henbit and chickw**d start sprouting once the soil cools to about 70°.
Around here, that's usually October.
Pre-emergent only works if it's down before they sprout, so go by soil temperature, not a date on the calendar.

Already looking forward to those Friday night drives around Conroe, looking at Christmas lights. 🎄

A yard like this would get a second lap from me. The roofline sets the shape, but those wrapped trees and the little lights up the walk are what make it feel like home.

This is a commercial stand-on mower that runs on big commercial batteries, enough to mow up to 8 acres on one charge.

Montgomery County St. Augustine owners, here's your fall game plan. 🍂 Our nights are finally cooling off in Conroe, The Woodlands, Montgomery and Willis, and your lawn's needs change with them.

1. Raise the mower. Keep St. Augustine around 3.5 to 4 inches this time of year. Taller blades store energy for winter and shade out w**ds.
2. Water less. Cooler weather means the grass uses less. About an inch a week, early in the morning, is plenty. Evening watering keeps blades wet overnight, and that invites fungus.
3. Watch for brown patch. When nights drop into the 60s and it stays damp, look for brown rings that spread across the yard. Catching it early makes it much easier to stop.
4. Skip the heavy nitrogen. A big green-up feeding now just pushes soft growth right before winter. If you feed, use a fall fertilizer that's lower in nitrogen.
5. Keep the leaves and pine needles off. A thick layer blocks sunlight and holds moisture against the grass, especially under our pines.
