Installed this heat cable myself last week.

Here's why that matters: when the snow melts and refreezes at your roof edge, it builds an ice dam. That dam backs water up under your shingles — and that's how you end up with leaks, stained ceilings, and rotted decking in the middle of January.
Heat cable melts a channel through the ice so the water has somewhere to go. No dam. No backup. No surprise repair bill when it's 12 degrees out.

The catch? You can't install it once the snow flies. It goes on now — in the dry months — or it doesn't go on at all this year.
We built this roof. I ran this cable personally. And if your home doesn't have heat cable heading into next winter, that's a conversation worth having before the first storm.
