A real estate transaction can look normal right up until the money disappears.
One compromised email account.
One convincing message.
One set of “updated” wire instructions.
And suddenly, tens of thousands of dollars are gone.
For Realtors, wire fraud isn’t just an IT problem, it’s a client-trust problem, a transaction problem, and potentially a career-changing problem.
If wire instructions ever change, or if seemingly-the-same wire instructions are confirmed via email:
STOP. Call a number you already trust and speak directly with the title company. Confirm the account number and routing information.
Never rely on the phone number within the email, especially if it’s requesting a change.
Save this, and send it to your agent before closing.
