🕵️♂️ The Silent Budget Killer: Is Your Toilet Stealing Your Money? 🚽💸
Did your water bill suddenly spike this month? Before you panic, check your bathroom. The most common culprit is a silent toilet leak.
Many toilet leaks are completely invisible and don't make a sound, but they can quietly waste up to 200 gallons of water every single day! Luckily, you don't need any special tools to find them—just a quick trip to your kitchen pantry.
🧪 The 15-Minute Plumbing Geek Dye Test
Follow these 4 simple steps to see if your toilet is draining your wallet:
1️⃣ Remove the lid from your toilet tank.
2️⃣ Drop 10–15 drops of food coloring inside the tank water (any bright color works!).
3️⃣ Wait 15 minutes (and make sure nobody flushes!).
4️⃣ Check the bowl. If the water has changed color, you have a hidden leak!
🧼 Pro-Tip: Make sure to flush immediately after the 15 minutes are up so the dye doesn't stain your porcelain!
🛠️ What Does a Leak Mean?
If color made it into the bowl, it usually means your toilet flapper is worn out, warped, or cracked. This rubber valve is supposed to keep water sealed tightly in the tank until you flush. Replacing a flapper is a quick, inexpensive fix that will instantly stop water waste and drop your bill back down to normal.
