Wolves have been in Northern Colorado for over a decade.

Wolves have been in northern Colorado since at least 2014 when solitary wolves began entering the state, but a self-sustaining population has not existed since the 1940s. In December 2023, Colorado officially began its wolf reintroduction program by releasing 10 wolves in Grand and Summit counties, as mandated by voter-approved Proposition 114.

Natural migration: Solitary wolves from the reintroduction efforts in the Northern Rockies have periodically entered Colorado since at least 2014. A wolf pack migrated from Wyoming in 2019, which produced the first documented litter of pups in Colorado in decades.

Reintroduction program: Colorado's formal reintroduction program began in December 2023 with the release of 10 wolves in Grand and Summit counties. This was followed by further releases in 2024 and 2025
