Please. Don't. Nail. Your. Christmas. Lights. To. Your. Roof.

We're all for being the brightest house on the street. We are significantly less enthusiastic about putting holes through shingles to accomplish it.

As you start pulling the Christmas decorations out this year:

🎄 Use plastic light clips instead of nails or staples.
🪜 Keep ladders properly positioned and avoid resting them directly against gutters when possible.
🏠 Don't lift shingles to tuck cords underneath them.
🍂 Clean leaves and debris from gutters BEFORE covering everything in lights.
👀 And if you notice loose shingles, damaged gutters, soft spots, or anything else suspicious while you're up there—don't ignore it.

Save this one for decorating day and send it to the person in your family who gets a little too ambitious with the Christmas lights.

Before you hang the Christmas lights… look at the roof. 👀
We know it’s not even October yet, but somebody in your neighborhood is about three days away from plugging in the inflatables. 😂

Before you start clipping lights to the roofline, take a quick look for:

🏠 Loose or missing shingles
🏠 Damaged flashing
🏠 Sagging or clogged gutters
🏠 Soft or damaged anything
🏠 Anything that just doesn’t look right

Fall has officially entered the chat. 🍂 Which means pretty soon we're all going to be cleaning gutters, blowing leaves and hanging Christmas lights like we didn't swear last year we'd never do it again.

While you're up there—take a look at your roof.

Missing or lifted shingles, loose flashing, gutters pulling away, water pooling where it shouldn't. Those little things are a whole lot easier to deal with BEFORE they become a leak inside your house.

Your roof doesn’t need to be leaking to have a problem. By the time water makes its way into the building, the issue may have been developing for months. 😬

We're talking ponding water, damaged seams, aging flashing, drainage issues, small punctures from rooftop traffic...

A roof inspection can catch those problems while they’re still maintenance items and not emergency calls.
