She came from very little, worked like hell, never forgot where she came from, helped people when she could, laughed at herself, and somehow managed to be successful without convincing herself she was better than everybody else.

I had the honor of speaking at the Crossroads REALTORS® Young Professionals Network social at The Forge on 4th, and I walked away grateful.

Thank you to everyone who came out. To Crossroads YPN and The Forge on 4th for putting on a first class evening. And to my fellow sponsors, TRIFLIX and The Bunker Hill Agency with Shelli Moss at Goosehead Insurance. A special thank you to our headline speaker, Randi Brandt-Alves, founder of Adroit Realty. Her story is one you do not forget.

My talk was called The Weight of the Keys. Because when an agent hands a family a set of keys, it is not a transaction. It is the place where they will rock a newborn at 2am, crowd into one kitchen every Thanksgiving, and walk in on the hardest day of their life and finally feel safe.

Agents and contractors are not really in the house business. We are here to protect the place where a person's whole life happens.

That is why I do this the way I do. The theme of the night was people over profit, and for us that is not a slogan. It is the wall our whole company is built on.

They keep saying nobody wants to work anymore. The numbers say something different.

America needs 349,000 new skilled-trade workers in 2026 alone and for every 5 tradespeople who retire, only 2 are stepping in to replace them (ABC; U.S. Dept. of Education). That’s not a labor problem. For anyone who can run a straight bead, read a print, or wire a panel right the first time, that’s the best seller’s market the trades have seen in a generation.

And the next generation is catching on. Gen Z now makes up 14.1% of the trades workforce, more than double what it was in 2019. While white-collar work gets nervous about AI, nobody’s automating a re-pipe or a roof tear-off. The work is real, it pays, and it isn’t going anywhere.

Here’s the part most people miss: the shortage rewards skill, not just bodies. When good hands are scarce, standards become your advantage.
