Got to do my first panel from start to finish. It was interesting. Before anyone flames me, my teacher came over and start yanking wires and cutting zip ties when he graded my work and this picture was taken after that happened lol. It was much cleaner. But this is an example of the stuff we get to do and learn with an IBEW apprenticeship. The most important thing no matter how beautiful your dress your panel is make sure all connections are secure and make sure your wiring is connected to the right circuit breaker. There is nothing worse than getting into a panel and having the panel schedule confusing or wires in the wrong place. It makes for a long process for any future electricians getting into a panel for future work.

Good luck to all apprentices out there and continue to give it your all no matter what ! Have a safe weekend everyone

Journeyman isn’t the end of the road — it’s where the real opportunities start ⚡

The apprenticeship teaches the fundamentals, but earning the Journeyman title opens multiple career paths: stay hands-on in the field, move into leadership roles running crews and projects, or build something bigger by becoming a contractor or business owner.

More skills = more responsibility
More responsibility = more pay 💰
More experience = more options

Overtime, travel, and specialization can accelerate growth, but the biggest advantage is having the freedom to choose your path. Many stop at Journeyman… the ones who keep pushing build careers, leadership roles, and even companies.

The apprenticeship is tough — but the payoff is real and I can’t wait for the opportunity 👌🏻⚡️🇺🇸

Here’s a few pics of some work I did earlier this week. After installing the LBs my journeyman told me to get them all to the 12x12 orange j-box. So, with minimal room to work with I was able to bring them all (1/2” EMT) to a single 4x11 and then run 3/4” EMT to finish off the conduit run. Not my proudest work and I was rushed at the very end of things but I was able to analyze where I wanted my conduit to run and how with the most efficient way! We then pulled the wire and gave the door company power to work with for their controls. This is what a Monday morning looked like for me as a first year IBEW apprentice! Happy Wednesday to all 👌🏻🔥⚡️

Being an IBEW electrician doesn’t just pay big time on your check but it also pays big time when you retire. As of now…at 60% of journeyman wage, I am contributing $2.55 an hour into my annuity. It’s all employer contributed an nothing out of my own pocket. IBEW electricians are retiring with millions in their annuity. This is just based on 40 hours, contributions, and the average 8% market growth each year. Add in the overtime? Now we’re talkin. For each hour overtime worked your annuity contributions are multiplied by a time and a half.

Apply for your local IBEW union for an unbelievable retirement.

So, you want to be a IBEW union apprentice? Work on big jobs? Commercial/Industrial? Make lots of $$? Have an incredible retirement? Meet lots of cool people? Here is what a day in the life looks like for me as a 1st year IBEW apprentice.

Today, I had to cut a “T” conduit body into an existing 3/4” conduit and run a few offsets and kick 90s to get to a controller panel. The controller panel was for some water pumps at the hospital. It was pretty cool, doing it all on my own as well. Took some good measurements and rolled with it.

It’s not about how fast you do it when starting out it’s about how proficient you do the job and pay attention to the little things.
