DON’T CALL A PLUMBER IF YOU DON’T HAVE TO! We at BCI Mechanical value the relationships we have built with our customers around Greater Columbus. We want to supply you with a few plumbing tips that EVERY homeowner needs to know as we approach the rainy fall and cold winter months.

1. Make sure that your garden hose is disconnected from the hose bib. Leaving a hose attached can cause the stagnant water to freeze. Ice in your hose bib could cause the whole unit to split.

2. Sump pump inspections are a great idea this time of year. With heavy rains and snow approaching, your foundation can become suddenly inundated. If your sump pump isn’t draining properly, you won’t know until a new sump pump is the least of your worries. Furthermore, make sure that your downspouts are draining properly is another way to control the drainage around your property and avoiding a flooded basement.

3. If you have a gas water heater, be sure to avoid rusted flue-piping. One way you can check your flue is by blowing out a match and holding it up to the flue. If the piping is in good shape, the smoke should draw right up that flue.

Be a proactive homeowner and take care of the problem so we don’t have to. A growing mechanical contracting company is seeking an experienced plumber that is able to perform punch out tasks on jobs in the greater Columbus area and surrounding cities.

Skills required
 Capable of working on sanitary, waterlines, and gas systems for light commercial jobs, and residential applications.
 Basic knowledge of rough-in, finish plumbing and gas
 Capable of changing tub and shower valves, setting shower pans and tubs, trouble shooting issues and making minor repairs. Basic knowledge of testing and standing inspections.
 Communicate with Contractors and Vendors
 Reports to Owner of company
Qualifications
 Solid work ethic
 People skills that are both genuine and personable
 Able to complete all required paperwork in a timely and accurate manner
 Must be able to pass criminal background check and drug screen
 Valid driver license with clean MVR
 High school diploma or equivalent

Cold weather reminder!

With the temperatures outside dropping don't forget to disconnect your garden hoses and bring them in for the winter. Leaving them attached to the spigot can result in the remaining water left in the hose to freeze and expand, causing faucets and pipes to freeze and crack.
Even if your home has frost-free spigots it is still a good idea to detach the hoses, as the crack usually occurs on the inside of the house and you could then be dealing with a leak inside the home.
If you have one, it is a good idea to turn off the shut off valve inside your home. If you do not have a shut off valve for the spigot, one can be installed.
