Considering starting the LARE process? Today for Professional Landscape Architect Day, we asked EDGE team members a simple question: Why pursue licensure?

Megan Meyer, Associate, is currently working through the exams. Jack McDonough, Senior Associate, has been licensed since 2022. Their reflections speak to what the process asks of you, what it gives back, and why licensure matters beyond the credential itself.

These winter scenes at Columbus Recreation and Parks Department's Warner Woods Park feel like a study in seasonality.

As snow falls quietly through the canopy above, the boardwalk takes on a different character. Color gives way to form, texture, and longer sightlines, shifting the mood of the landscape overnight. The last red leaves hold on against the expanse of white, creating a distinct seasonal experience that only lasts for a short window each year.

Hilliard’s Recreation Campus sets a new standard for community-scale recreation. EDGE partnered with the City of Hilliard, Ohio - Government and City of Hilliard Recreation and Parks Department to master plan 125 acres where trails, athletic fields, and outdoor gathering spaces work as one system, supporting daily use while handling the scale and logistics of regional events.

OSPORTS was an invaluable partner in shaping how the athletic components function for players, families, and tournament operations. The result is a campus that is accessible, organized, and ready for whatever the season brings.

Congrats to Columbus Metropolitan Library and the community on the opening of the new Linden Branch. The turnout today said everything. Despite the snow, people came out in force to check out the new space and their next read.

Moody Nolan led the architectural design, with EDGE providing landscape architecture. We focused on the experience from the sidewalk in, improving visibility and creating a clearer, more welcoming arrival with thoughtfully placed walkways and landscape elements. A children’s rooftop terrace adds a protected outdoor space with play features, giving kids a place to do homework, hang out, and burn off some energy.

This branch is built for what comes next, designed to grow with the community and support what’s ahead.

The Greater Dayton School’s new PK–8 campus treats the site as part of the curriculum, creating daily opportunities for outdoor learning, movement, and discovery. Working with Moody Nolan, EDGE designed an “education loop” that connects an integrated track, field, playground, entry plazas, and outdoor terraces through clear, intuitive circulation. Universally designed play elements, resilient poured-in-place and turf surfacing, and thoughtfully integrated perimeter fencing support a safe, inclusive outdoor environment for students of all ages and abilities.

While capturing the updated Deer Creek State Park Lodge & Welcome Center, nature’s cutest photo-bomber strolled in with the confidence of someone whose name is literally on the sign.

EDGE partnered with ODNR to deliver aesthetic upgrades that make arrival intuitive and welcoming. Inspired by Deer Creek’s historic prairie and plains character, native grasses and oak savanna plantings support wildlife, and a communal firepit creates an easy place for visitors to gather.

Great amenity spaces bring the best parts of a night out steps from your door. Fifth x Northwest is anchored by two rooftop destinations: a resort-style podium pool terrace for lounging, plus a sixth-floor sky lounge that opens to a fire pit patio with skyline views. With 10,000sf of first-floor retail and a 10-minute walk to Grandview’s dining, shopping, and entertainment, weekend plans come built in.

Congrats to the Columbus Metropolitan Library team and the Canal Wi******er community on the grand opening of the new Canal Wi******er Branch. The energy of this weekend's celebration and incredible turnout made it clear that this is a space the community is eager to use from day one. At 30,000sf, the new branch creates room for how people use a library today, including meeting rooms, study rooms, an interactive children’s area, dedicated tween and teen spaces, learning center, business center, plus a range of seating and quiet reading areas.

Bostwick Design Partnership and Wellogy led the architectural design, with EDGE providing landscape architecture. Together, the team extended the library experience outdoors with a shaded patio seating area, foundation plantings, clear pedestrian and vehicular circulation, and integrated safety features that support daily visits and community events. Floor-to-ceiling windows strengthen the connection between indoor spaces and the landscape, bringing in abundant daylight to support wellbeing.
