The Craftsman: Joe Stahl of Knight Electric, Inc.

His Winning Work: The automated transport system and robotic infrastructure at The Ohio State University James Cancer Hospital and Solove Research Institute.

The craftsmanship of electrician Joe Stahl is evident in the unique robotic work he completed at The Ohio State University James Cancer Hospital.

Stahl and his crew of six were responsible for installing all the charging stations, elevator interface panels, door control monitors, cart photo cells and robotics throughout the entire facility.
The complexity of the system required significant coordination, patience and extra time both on and off the clock to keep Stahl and his team on schedule.

During the work, Stahl detected a slight flaw in the existing door sensor design. He redesigned a bracket that was smaller, more cost effective and provided a more efficient operation.
The completed project provides an automated system that allows the robots to travel independently throughout the building to collect trash, deliver supplies and transport materials as programmed.
A member of Electrical Workers Local Union 683, Stahl has been employed by Knight Electric for 13 years

This year, the Builders Exchange will honor eight Craftsmanship Award recipients during the BX Annual Meeting on Thursday, Nov. 19, at the Villa Milano Banquet and Conference Center, 1630 Schrock Rd.
