Let chemical stripper do the hard work first. 🙌 Once the old finish is gone, sanding is SO much easier—and you’re less likely to sand through veneer.

Free furniture doesn’t always mean an easy flip. 😅 These Stanley nightstands needed far more work than I expected, but I’m glad I didn’t walk away. Free find → $450 sale. Was it worth it?

You don’t need a specialty sander for every curve or detail. 🙌 Contour sanding blocks and a foam interface pad can make those awkward areas SO much easier. I wish someone had shown me these sooner! Save this for your next furniture project.

There’s nothing quite like stripping away an old finish and seeing the wood underneath. 🤎

This one sounded just as satisfying as it looked. 😂 Would you rather strip furniture or sand it?

Before I stain stripped furniture, I make sure all that leftover residue is actually gone. 👀

A mineral spirits wipe helps clean the surface—and sometimes the towel tells you there was a lot more left behind than you thought. 😅

Once clean and dry, I applied Dark Walnut stain to bring out the richness in that mahogany, wiped back the excess, and finished with a protective topcoat. 🤎

I really wanted the all-wood look to work…but it just wasn’t it. 😅

So I changed the plan. I kept the maple tops, added a rich stain, and painted the bodies instead. Sometimes refinishing isn’t about saving every inch of wood—it’s about knowing when to pivot.

Would you have kept them all wood or gone with paint + wood?

Tiny details are one of the worst parts of stripping furniture…unless you let the acetone do the work. 🙌

I brush acetone over the finish, let it soften the finish, then work it into those small details with a brush instead of trying to sand every tiny curve.

Save this one for the next piece of painted furniture that makes you question your life choices. 😂

⚠️ Always use appropriate PPE and good ventilation when working with acetone.

Green paint on red wood sounds a little crazy…until you understand color theory. 💚🤎

A very diluted green paintwash helps neutralize those strong red tones. I followed it with a light neutral paintwash to get the softer wood tone I was after—without hiding the grain.

Stop throwing away your paint rollers between coats! 🙌

If I’m using the same paint again over the next few days, this is what I do:

•Leave the paint on the roller — don’t rinse it.
•Place it inside a Ziplock bag.
•Push out excess air and seal it tightly.
•Store it in the refrigerator.
•Pull it out when you’re ready for the next coat and get back to painting.

I typically use this for 2–3 days during an ongoing project with water-based paint.

Save this for your next painting project—or send it to someone who keeps throwing away perfectly good rollers. 😂
