Hardlines Design Company Woman-owned architecture and cultural resources management firm

Hardlines Design Company has three main service areas: architecture, cultural resources management, and preservation planning. Our architecture department focuses on historic preservation, theater restorations, and school renovations/additions. Our cultural resource department includes archaeologists, historians, and preservation planners, and performs surveys and evaluations of archaeological sites and historic buildings, as well as producing management plans for federal and state agencies to assist in meeting historic preservation legislation requirements.

You can find us in the section called Transitions that lists places restored, threatened, saved and lost. : Renovations are complete at Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church!

The final touches, including updated interior flooring and window trim, are now complete at Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church. The only Black church still standing from before the American Civil War, it demonstrates what’s possible when the community comes together to preserve an important piece of history.

Construction has officially begun at the Cedarville Opera House !

The Cedarville Opera House restoration continues with steady progress, and on May 28, the reconstructed steeple on the hose tower was installed by as part of the re-roofing. This hose tower once served the fire station on the first floor, but the steeple was later removed following wind damage.

When you have collaboration built on trust and respect, the possibilities are endless.

For over a decade, we have partnered with MKSK on various projects, including the rehabilitation of Stewart Elementary School and the design of the new West Case Park . Working with their team of planners, urban designers and landscape architects has allowed us to offer services outside our typical scope of work.

While the teams handle the planning and design, Ziti has taken on the important role of unofficial trail inspector for the new grass trails at West Case Park!

Exciting news!

After 5 phases of restoration, the Historic Gardner Homestead is nearing completion, with an open house scheduled for later this month. Hardlines initially completed an existing conditions assessment with a master plan for the future renovation, and updates included a new HVAC system, reinforcing the attic and replacing the roof, gutters, and downspouts, meeting accessibility clearances and interior rehabilitation that preserve its historic character.

If you’d like to see the updated Gardner House, keep an eye out for that open house date!

Hardlines Design Company is currently working with a structural engineer to renovate the box cars at the Gallipolis Railroad Freight Station Museum. This ODOT-funded project will provide the space with an accessible restroom, catering kitchen and meeting room.

Amanda, OH, residents have likely noticed the Hardlines team around town lately!

We’ve been onsite every two weeks serving as the construction firm for ongoing renovations at the Tarlton Armory, where all windows are currently being replaced. If all goes as planned, this project should be completed this summer.

Ziti, the Hardlines office dog, turns recovery into victory!

After recovering from back surgery, Ziti traveled to Auburn, Washington, for the 2026 Canine Performance Events Nationals, earning multiple top finishes and qualifying in 5 of 9 agility events (and placing top 10 in all but one). Competing against more than 300 top dogs, she was also the only beagle in the field!

Accessibility plays an important role in historic preservation, helping ensure historic spaces can be experienced and used by everyone while maintaining its original character.

We are currently working on a Belmont County Courthouse project focused on restoring historic features such as railings, stone stairs and other elements, while also improving accessibility to an older portion of the building.
