Gray Concrete Stain with Matte Polyurethane finish.

These thin mil floors can be challenging, but when taken the time and craftsmanship they come out really great.

1. Grinder Marks can come from low grit diamonds and hand grinder cup wheel marks. These scratch patterns are undesired and can really stand out in the finish.

*Solution is to use higher grit diamonds and cup wheel. Several passes with the walk behind grinder to hone the overall concrete and prior to that… taking your time finding and dig in spots from removing cream with a higher grit cup wheel

2. Windows+Doors=Natural Light can be a killer for roller lines and roller marks. Having to switch up different ways to camouflage or keep a consistent pattern.

*Solution is to have enough hands present when applying the material, having a plan on the process, and using great material to give you just enough working time.

3. Soft Concrete can lead to re-emerging of hairline cracks and pitting after each grind.

*Solution is to be overzealous on patching material, using your hawkeye to find all the imperfections, and knowing have to fix details the day of staining.

Stained Concrete is not for everybody, but if you love the beauty of imperfect concrete - this is the look for you.

Here in the pictures you can see the beautiful stone, crazing from the pour, cracks that have happened despite the saw cuts in place, and the number of repairs with epoxy that we applied.

Project took 32 hours of concrete prep, 4 hours of prep, and 6 hours of stain+coating over the course of 4 days.

Application of MVB from Direct Epoxy w/Coyote flakes

Primed with a fast cure MVB
Body coat with regular cure MVB 120 sq ft per gal
Flake at 6.5 sq ft per pound

We actually did a double broadcast then topped with poly, but timelapse died on the poly top coat.

Anyway, notice how you see no shiny spots of epoxy after I throw the flake - even which it’s almost 2x thick compared to some applicators.

Colleagues, be picky with your work!
