Why build one water feature when you can design for every season?

At this S. Parkway residence in Upper Arlington, Landfare Ltd. created both a custom spa and a spool, giving the homeowners flexibility to enjoy their outdoor space throughout the year.

In summer, both become part of the backyard experience. In winter, one can remain open while the other is closed, extending the usefulness of the landscape beyond the traditional pool season.

The design was carefully integrated into the historic architecture with traditional materials, balanced proportions, thermal bluestone, classic planting, and understated ironwork.

Because a truly thoughtful inground pool isn't simply designed for how the backyard looks in July.

It's designed around how you want to live there all year long.

A little bit of the Caribbean, right here in Upper Arlington.

For this Yorkshire Road in-ground pool, the homeowners drew inspiration from their love of Turks & Caicos. A blue quartz plaster finish sets the tone, complemented by custom tile with a subtle blonde detail running along the pool.

Even the smallest details have a purpose. Small square tiles mark the entry steps, helping swimmers see their footing alongside the railing while adding a quiet design detail to the water.

Around the pool, carefully defined terraces, fire features, seating, dining, and a putting area turn the backyard into an outdoor retreat designed for more than just summer swimming.

The best pool designs are personal. What destination would inspire your dream pool?

What if your backyard worked more like your home?

At this Yorkshire Road residence in Upper Arlington, Landfare Ltd. executed a series of outdoor rooms, each with its own purpose.

A pool terrace for summer afternoons and football Saturdays. A putting area for a little friendly competition. A dining terrace for entertaining. Fire features and heating extend the experience well into fall.

Instead of one large patio, each space has definition while remaining connected through thoughtful landscape design and hardscape.

The result is a backyard that isn't just beautiful to look at. It's designed to be lived in.

What would your ideal outdoor room be?

What happens when a landscape is designed to belong to the architecture?

At this historic S. Parkway residence in Upper Arlington, Landfare Ltd. looked to the home’s traditional Georgian character to guide every detail.

Rustic red brick pillars, thermal bluestone, white sandstone steps, simple black iron, classic boxwoods, hydrangeas, and sweetbay magnolias create a garden that feels established rather than newly imposed.

Even the lighting was carefully proportioned to the brick pillars, while the bluestone paths create continuity from the street to the front door.

The result is high-end landscape design with restraint: nothing competing for attention, everything working together.

The best landscapes don't distract from a beautiful home. They make you notice it more.

The answer is rarely the furniture. It's the foundation beneath it.

One of our favorite outdoor spaces features natural stone selected to echo the home's architecture, creating a terrace that feels as though it has always been there. Thoughtful grading, generous gathering spaces, and carefully layered plantings soften the hardscape, allowing the garden and patio to become one seamless outdoor room. It's the kind of design that grows more beautiful with each passing season rather than chasing the latest trend.

If you were investing in your backyard, where would you begin?
• A timeless stone patio that will last for decades
• A covered porch or pergola for shade and entertaining
• Layered gardens that soften the architecture
• A pool or water feature that becomes the centerpiece

See how thoughtful stonework can transform an outdoor living space into an extension of the home.

The dog days of summer have us thinking beyond the pool.

More homeowners are choosing pavilions, pergolas, and covered verandas that extend the enjoyment of their outdoor spaces from the hottest afternoons to cool autumn evenings. They create shade for poolside lounging, define outdoor rooms, and make entertaining comfortable throughout the season.

At this Berkshire Road project in Upper Arlington, a custom pergola was designed as an architectural feature rather than an afterthought. Its full-depth lattice filters sunlight throughout the day, while integrated lighting tucked within the framework creates a warm glow after sunset. Crown molding and carefully proportioned details allow the structure to feel as though it has always been part of the home.

Combined with salvaged bluestone, a custom pool and spa, and thoughtfully engineered transitions between the home and outdoor living areas, the result is a backyard that feels timeless, comfortable, and beautifully connected.

If you were designing your dream backyard, what would you choose first—a pergola, pavilion, or covered veranda?
