New plant day at The Plant Shop!

We’re unboxing some fresh arrivals including Monstera Deliciosa, Philodendron Brasil, Philodendron Lemon Lime, Ruby Ficus and more. And here’s the fun part… some of these plants could be YOURS.

A few of these new arrivals will be up for grabs at our Plant Bingo Social on August 22nd. Come play Bingo, win plants and hang out with some fellow plant people.

The Plant Shop is located inside The Workshop by K&K Co. in the JCPenney Wing of the Columbia Mall in Columbia, Missouri.

PLANT BINGO IS BACK!

Come hang out with us August 22nd from 12–2 PM at Workshop by K&K Co. with TPS Plants for an afternoon of plants, bingo, food, and a little friendly competition.

We’re playing 8 rounds of Plant Bingo, which means 8 chances to WIN PLANTS!

After bingo, everybody gets to choose their own Pothos and we’ll repot them together while talking plants, answering questions, and sharing a little plant knowledge along the way.

Building soil doesn’t have to be guesswork.

Seven days ago, I cut back this Alocasia because the stems were getting way too leggy. A lot of people panic when plants start looking rough, but sometimes cutting them back is exactly what they need.

The original stem already calloused over. The top cutting is pushing new roots in water propagation. And even the division that struggled still has a chance to bounce back.

Plants are a reminder that growth doesn’t always look pretty in the beginning.

Now we wait for the comeback.

Don’t look at me. Look at your plants.

A lot of plants struggle because we forget they actually need support in more ways than one.

Mentally, you need to spend time with them. Check them over. Watch the leaves. Learn their habits. Plants usually give warning signs before they decline, but you have to actually pay attention.

Physically, give them something to climb or anchor to. Moss poles. Coco coir poles. Planks. Even a simple stick can help.

Most climbing plants grow larger, healthier, and more mature once they have support. You’d be surprised how much faster they take off when they finally have something to hold onto.

Support your plants. They’ve been trying to tell you.

This week’s spotlight plant is the Philodendron Billietiae.

If you’ve ever wondered how people get those huge dramatic leaves on a Billietiae… no, they don’t come like that fresh out the pot.

I wanted to show the difference between a starter Billietiae and a more mature one because this plant really changes as it grows. Longer leaves. Bigger leaves. Better spacing. More attitude.

And before anybody asks…
No, mine hasn’t even been on a moss pole yet.

What helped mine size up was giving it what climbing aroids actually want:
High light. High humidity. Consistency.

Those aerial roots are there for a reason. This plant wants to climb. So now that she’s matured and started throwing those massive leaves, it’s officially time to transition her onto a moss pole so she can really show out.

Basically:
Bright light + humidity = confidence.
Moss pole = final form.
