PLEASE PREPARE !!

We are being urged to prepare for expected winter weather and extreme cold in the coming days. Arctic air is expected to move into the state Sunday night, with the possibility of snow and ice impacting parts of the state on Tuesday late evening and Wednesday morning, according to the South Carolina Emergency Management Division

You’re encouraged to take the following precautions:

📍Insulate exposed pipes and let faucets drip overnight to prevent freezing and bursting.

📍Prepare alternative heating sources, such as ensuring you have enough dry, seasoned wood for your fireplace. Keep fire extinguishers accessible, and make sure everyone knows how to use them.

📍Keep kerosene heaters and generators outside, properly vented, and away from flammable materials. Never use a portable generator indoors.

📍Check on pets and ensure they have access to food and water, while also protecting them from the cold by keeping them indoors if possible.

📍Be cautious when walking or driving on ice, particularly black ice.

📍Limit travel, especially during freezing conditions or overnight when temperatures are expected to drop.

📍If travel is essential, slow down, increase your following distance, and remain alert. In the event of a minor collision without injuries, move your vehicle off the road and call local law enforcement or dial *HP (*47) for assistance.

Please stay advised & updated on the latest weather forecasts and warnings as the storm approaches.

Freezing Temperature Reminders:

If you have a tankless water heater mounted outside, you may want to insulate the water lines coming into the heater and exiting the heater if those are also exposed to outside temperatures. The water heater will not operate without enough water flow.

Don't forget about your landscaping sprinklers. Adjust the timers so your sprinklers don't turn on during freezing temperatures.

Outside spigots should be insulated well.

Always remember the possibility and danger of black ice on roads, driveways and walkways.

Be safe !!

We hope you’re staying warm this holiday season !

Tonight’s temps are going to be brutally FREEZING!!!
Make sure your units are ready!

IF using space heaters, please remember:
-DO NOT run space heaters plugged into anything other than direct outlet & with nothing else plugged into that outlet (can cause overload)
-Keep them a minimum of 3 feet away from anything flammable (clothing, furniture, paint, plastic, bedding, curtains, and etc) , children, & pets.
-DO NOT leave unattended as they can fall over or overheat causing a house fire.
-DO NOT run more than 4-6 hours on the lowest setting.
Lastly, we do NOT recommend heaters running off natural gas, propane, or kerosene!! HIGH risk of carbon monoxide poisoning and/or house fire.

Make sure your smoke detectors & carbon monoxide detectors are working.
Now is a time to change out batteries for new ones.
Over 1700 fires happen every winter due to failure to follow space/portable heater safety.

Call for a maintenance today!! This will insure your unit is clean, all parts & components are working well & running efficiently. Also can schedule duct inspection. Make sure you have no holes or damages so your receiving the heat you desired. Don’t be the one waking up to a freezing house panicking.

As the colder temps have arrived & will hang around for awhile, here’s some ways to help stay warm & save on your energy bills 💪🏼

1) Take Advantage of Natural Sunlight.
Open your curtains or blinds during the day to let in natural sunlight, which can help warm up your home. Close them at night to add an extra layer of insulation against the cold.

2) Use Energy-Efficient Appliances.
When using space heaters or other heating
appliances, choose energy-efficient models that use less energy while still providing adequate warmth.

3) Dress Warmly.
Wearing layers of clothing and using blankets can help you stay warm without needing to turn up the heat.

4) Cook and Bake More.
Using your oven to cook and bake meals not only provides delicious food but also adds warmth to your home. *For your safety, never use your oven as a primary heat source.

5) Seal Drafts and Insulate.
Ensure that your home is properly insulated and that any drafts around doors and windows are sealed. This will prevent cold air from entering and warm air from escaping, reducing the need for excessive heating.

6) Maintain Your Heating System.
Regularly servicing your heating system ensures that it runs efficiently. Replace filters as needed and consider having a professional check-up to keep it in optimal condition.

**Higher energy bills can be common in the winter. **
