Does anybody else think they are made up of mostly the characters they grew up watching? Sometimes it does to me. There's a line from an old Dirty Harry movie, "...a man's got to know his limitations." Yeah, ...I found mine. I was tested by an old building that was worthy of rehabilitation. I was not worthy. I failed to enamor anyone else in the treacherous road down a historical restoration. I ran out of gas...financially, emotionally, pragmatically, spiritually...and intellectually. The road was too long and the ditches were too steep. I sold the property to the neighbor who chose to tear it down.
Historical buildings are imperative for the cultural memory of our communities, this one was important and Montana will unfortunately feel the loss.
I wish it was as important to the billionaires moving to our state...this reclamation would have been a small price to pay for the preservation of our history.
We are dust in the wind. Buildings can serve our communities long after we were here.
