A beautiful kitchen is great. A kitchen that actually works well every single day is even better. A few details worth thinking about early:

1. Give yourself somewhere to put things down. Think about landing space beside your range, refrigerator, oven, and other hardworking areas.

2. Think about the trash can. Where it lives in relation to your sink and prep space makes a bigger difference than you’d expect.

3. Bigger isn’t always better when it comes to your island. Good circulation and comfortable clearances matter more than squeezing in the biggest island possible.

4. Pay attention to what happens when doors and drawers are open. Your kitchen needs to work when the dishwasher is down, refrigerator is open, and someone is digging through a drawer.

5. Lighting should help you cook, too. Layer in task lighting where you actually prep and cook, not just lighting that makes the kitchen look pretty.

6. Plan your outlets early. Think about where you’ll use appliances, charge a laptop, plug in a mixer, or work at the island before electrical locations are finalized.

These aren’t necessarily the exciting decisions you picture when you start dreaming about a new kitchen, but they’re the ones you’ll appreciate every single day.

Cold weather has a way of showing you which parts of your home you really appreciate. 🍂

Heated bathroom floors, a fireplace that actually belongs in the room, layered lighting, a hardworking entry, and a kitchen made for gathering can completely change how your home feels this time of year.

We’re sharing a few of our favorite home features for the colder months on the blog.

There’s something about the first cold stretch of the year that makes you notice your home a little differently. 🍂

The warm floors. The good lighting. The spot everyone gathers. The little corner you actually want to curl up in.

Some of the best home features aren’t necessarily the flashiest. They’re the ones that make being home feel really, really good.

We rounded up a few of our favorites for the colder months.

We’re always saying it: choose what YOU love.

Not what’s trending. Not what you think your house is “supposed” to look like. The colors, details, weird little choices, and pieces that make you happy!

Today we are here to show you: we practice what we preach! 🙌

These are a few of the spaces Anna, one of our teammates, loves most in her own home. Her style is a little whimsical & collected. Consider this your permission slip to have a little more fun with your house!

Your home should feel like YOU!

Okay Project Smugglers 👀

We kept the warmth and charm that belonged, said goodbye to the outdated finishes, and gave this primary bath the glow-up it deserved.
