When you send the picture. 📸
Walk the site in person. 🚶‍♂️
Write out the detailed scope. 📋
Draw the diagram. ✏️
Explain the plan.
Go over it again just to make sure everyone understands…

…and then someone asks:

“So… what are we doing?”

At that point, all you can do is stare at the camera.

Construction is a team sport, but apparently sometimes the pre-game meeting needs a pre-game meeting.

All jokes aside, communication is everything on a jobsite. The more clearly we communicate the plan, the better the project runs.

We’ll explain it… again if we have to.

🥾 Sometimes Getting the Job Means Putting in the Miles.

Today’s reminder: opportunities don’t always come knocking on your door. Sometimes, you have to go knock on theirs.

This map represents a lot of footwork—walking through neighborhoods, looking at properties, identifying potential work, and putting ourselves in front of the people who may need a contractor.

And that’s not even counting the pavement. 😂

Whether it’s an HOA, a property manager, a commercial development, or a homeowner with a project they’ve been putting off—there are opportunities everywhere.

But you have to be willing to look for them.

You might knock on 20 doors and hear “not right now.”

You might follow up five times before someone is ready.

You might walk miles and walk away with nothing that day.

But then you find that one opportunity that turns into a project, a relationship, and potentially years of work.

That’s the part people don’t always see behind a growing construction company.

The work doesn’t start when we get the contract.

Sometimes it starts with a pair of boots, a map, a little persistence, and the willingness to take a chance.

So if you’re a business owner or contractor looking for your next opportunity:

Get out there. Look around. Introduce yourself. Knock on the door.

You never know which one is going to open.

Being a General Contractor Is More Than Building.

Being a General Contractor isn’t just about putting people on a jobsite and watching the project go up.

It’s about taking responsibility for the entire picture.

📐 Understanding the plans
📋 Managing the scope
🤝 Coordinating trades
🚛 Handling materials and logistics
💰 Managing the budget
⏱️ Keeping the schedule moving
🦺 Maintaining safety
🔧 Solving problems when things don’t go according to plan
📞 Communicating with the owner, engineers, subcontractors, and everyone in between

And sometimes, being the GC means being the person who gets the phone call when something goes wrong.

That’s where we believe a good contractor earns their reputation.

You don’t need a contractor who promises that nothing will ever go wrong.

You need one who knows what to do when it does.

At Steel Dog Structures, we take pride in being involved from the planning stages through the final detail.

Because a successful project isn’t just about the finished building.

It’s about how you get there. 🐺🏗️

Retrofit Progress — One More Step Closer.

Another retrofit is moving forward, and we’re starting to see the transformation come together.

Spray foam: COMPLETE. ✅
Next up: CONCRETE. 🚧

Retrofitting an existing building takes a different level of planning and attention to detail. You’re working with what’s already there while finding the right way to improve, reinforce, and bring the building up to its next chapter.

We’re not just making it look better—we’re making it work better.

One phase at a time. One detail at a time.

Stay tuned for the concrete phase. 👀

🏗️ The Work Before the Work.

Before we ever set a piece of steel, pour concrete, or mobilize a crew, there’s a lot of work happening behind the scenes.

At Steel Dog Structures, we believe in putting the time and effort into developing a realistic budgetary number before moving forward with a permanent project.

That means reviewing plans, understanding the scope, looking at site conditions, considering materials, labor, equipment, logistics, subcontractors, engineering, and all the other variables that can affect the final cost.

And here’s something most people don’t see:

We do a lot of that work before we even know if we’re getting the project.

Our estimators and project managers can spend hours—or sometimes much longer—putting together a number that may ultimately be awarded to someone else.

That’s part of being a contractor.

We don’t look at estimating as wasted time. We look at it as an investment in our customers and in building projects the right way from the beginning.

Because we’d rather spend the time upfront asking the hard questions and developing a realistic budget than give you a number just to win the job and figure out the problems later.

A good project starts long before the first shovel hits the ground.

At Steel Dog Structures, we believe the estimate should be built with the same care as the building.

🐺 Meet Ryder — The Red Iron Dog.

Every great company needs a mascot, and around Steel Dog Structures, Ryder has earned his spot.

You might see him on one of our jobsites, hanging around the office, or making an appearance when you meet our team in person.

He may not be swinging a wrench or setting steel, but Ryder represents what we’re all about:

Loyalty. Strength. Hard work. And always being ready to get the job done.

So the next time you see that red iron dog around Steel Dog Structures, now you know who he is.

Give Ryder a wave. 🐺👋

📱 Contractors: Your Work Deserves to Be Seen.

If you’re a contractor and you’re not using social media, you’re leaving one of the best marketing tools in the industry sitting on the table.

Construction is visual.

People want to see the projects you’re building, the problems you’re solving, the quality of your work, and—most importantly—the people behind the company.

Social media allows a potential customer to watch you before they ever call you.

Show the jobsite.
Show the process.
Show the finished product.
Show the mistakes you fixed.
Show the details nobody else notices.
Show your team.

Because when someone is trusting you with a $50,000, $100,000, or $1 million project, they’re not just buying construction.

They’re buying confidence in the contractor.

And social media gives you the opportunity to build that confidence before you’ve ever met.

At Steel Dog Structures, we’re not posting because every day is perfect.

We’re posting because we want people to see how we work, what we build, and what we stand for.

If you’re a contractor, stop being afraid to put your work out there.

Your next customer might already be watching. 👀🏗️
