Our project this month highlights the work completed on Building 1526.

Ft Carson B1536 is a two-story office building that was completely renovated in the course of this Project. PLS Mechanical’s initial scope was a full HVAC replacement of two multi-zone air handler units and condensers, all new ducting throughout, new CRAC units in two Data Rooms, and new plumbing fixtures in four full public restrooms, and a kitchenette in the break room.

Throughout the demolition process, the existing boiler room froze and PLS assisted with the design and installed a new water heater, pump, and piping prefabricated skid, and helped assess the state and soundness of the existing boiler. After ceilings were removed it was discovered that the existing piping installation was in a poor state, and PLS CAD completed accurate as-built drawings and design assistance to re-pipe the plumbing and hydronic systems as needed for optimal efficiency and applicable code compliance.

This was a tough project with surprises around every turn, but the PLS field staff and CAD Department handled everything without issue and brought this job in under budget and ahead of schedule.

Dutch Heritage Gardens is our spotlight for this month.

We installed new gas piping to supply 41 new unit heaters for a new addition to their existing greenhouse. The gas system included nearly 3,000 feet of gas piping (3”, 2”, 1 ½”, ¾”), four main system regulators, and 41 individual regulators for each unit heater. While the project wasn’t challenging, our crew endured the elements outdoors and in an unfinished building during winter.

PLS utilized new innovative materials (Gas Mega Press Fittings) for this project as an experiment for future work. Using these materials significantly increased onsite installation time versus utilizing standard welding operations.

Eliminating processes like purging and time typically spent on a welded system could be beneficial for future projects.

Dutch Heritage was pleased with the project duration and quality of the installation our crew put forth.
