Every time hail shows up in the forecast, two things happen in Colorado Springs: the sky turns that strange greenish color, and the out-of-town roofers start circling like it's a gold rush. So before the storm even gets here, a little common sense from your neighbors at High Valley Roofing:
First, Don't panic. One round of pea-sized hail does not mean you need a new roof. If you take real damage, you'll know, and it'll still be there to look at tomorrow when your head is clear.
Don't sign anything under pressure. A good contractor wont rush you into a decision. Whether they knocked on your door, you found them online, or your neighbor referred them, take a few minutes to verify who you're working with. Check reviews, confirm they're local, and make sure they'll still be around long after the storm has passed.
That said, don't ignore it either. If your property takes legitimate storm damage, it's wise to act within a reasonable timeframe. Major hail events often create material shortages, longer production times, and packed contractor schedules. Many insurance policies also place a responsibility on homeowners to mitigate against further damage when possible. The goal isn't to rush, it's to make an informed decision before a small problem becomes a bigger one.
Most Important, Take care of each other. If you've got an older or elderly neighbor, or someone down the street who's likely to get steamrolled by a fast-talking salesman, check on them. Tag them in the comments. That's what gets people through storm season around here, not panic, just neighbors looking out for neighbors.
If your property takes damage, get a local set of eyes on it. A good contractor will tell you when you need work done and when you don't.
Stay safe out there.
