Old Westbury Estate | Master Plan
A look at the evolving master plan for this Old Westbury estate.
What makes this project particularly exciting is that the mansion footprint is the only existing element shown here. Everything outside the walls of the home has been newly designed as part of the overall master plan.
The design includes the new terraces and formal gardens, reflecting pools and water features, outdoor kitchen and entertaining areas, a new pavilion extending off the ballroom, multiple pergolas creating additional outdoor rooms, the fire garden, pathways, planting, and the new poolscape overlooking the horse paddocks.
One of the most important moves was establishing a strong central axis extending from the mansion through the property and ultimately connecting to the horse stables. The individual gardens and entertaining spaces then develop off that framework, creating a progression of outdoor rooms while keeping the entire estate connected.
The intent throughout has been to make these new elements feel appropriate to the scale and character of the mansion, as though the house and landscape were conceived together from the beginning.
Still evolving, but it’s exciting to see the entire property beginning to come together.
