🌿 FREE STICKERS!
No, not the fun kind for your water bottle — the “ruin your day in flip-flops” kind.

We pulled these spicy little landmines out of a yard this week.
Tempted to gift them to Karen down the block… but we figured we’d just warn the rest of y’all instead. 😅

💥 If your lawn’s got goat heads, PKO’s got your back.
We’ll yank ’em!

📞 Call before your kid, bike tire, or bare foot finds one first.

Tornado Damage Update from PKO Lawn – Grainfield, KS

Last night, a tornado struck our rental property northwest of Grainfield, KS (67737), causing significant damage. We lost the barn, grain bins, shop, garage, and the car inside. Our dog kennel was also destroyed—but by some miracle, our dog survived and came running home from the tree line nearly an acre away. We’re incredibly thankful for that.

From a business standpoint, we lost tools, equipment, and supplies essential to our day-to-day operations. We’re doing everything we can to recover quickly, but we kindly ask for your patience as we regroup and rebuild.

Our hearts and prayers go out to our neighbors in Grinnell, KS, who may have suffered even more devastating losses. Reports indicate that a large tornado caused extensive damage in Grinnell, impacting homes and infrastructure.

If you’re local and able to help in any way—materials, tools, labor, or just moral support—it would mean the world to us.

Thank you for your understanding and continued support.

Think You’re Saving Money by Skipping Lawn Care? Here’s What Your Thatch Layer Thinks About That.

PKO LAWN, proudly serving Northwest Kansas

If you’ve ever looked at your water bill in July and wondered why your lawn still looks tired after all that effort—the answer might be hiding just under your feet.

It’s called thatch: a layer of dead grass, stems, and roots that builds up between your grass and the soil. When it’s over ½ inch thick, it acts like a sponge and a shield all at once—soaking up water, blocking nutrients, and locking out any of that w**d & feed you just spent good money on.

Yep—thick thatch can make your fertilizers and herbicides practically useless. According to the University of Illinois Extension, “If the thatch is too thick, granular fertilizers and pesticides may never reach the soil, reducing their effectiveness” (source below). That’s like tossing your lawn care budget straight into the wind.

Here at PKO LAWN, we recommend dethatching every 2 to 3 years, depending on your grass type and soil. A small investment in dethatching now can save you serious cash down the road—on watering, products, and repeat fixes that just don’t stick.

Bottom line: If your thatch layer is too thick, your lawn can’t breathe, drink, or eat properly—no matter how much you pamper it. Let’s make sure your efforts (and your dollars) aren’t going to waste.

Call us today—let’s give your lawn the fresh start it deserves.
