A shower niche that repeats the room's green accent.

In this custom build in Indianola the shower walls are a pale large-format tile with a soft linear grain, and the recessed niche is lined in the same glossy green tile that covers the wall beside it. Three tiers with slim pale dividers give bottles a place of their own, and the green inside the opening reads as a deliberate echo rather than an afterthought. Set warm color inside a white frame and both get stronger. In the Oaklyn, a Ground Breaker Homes build in Cu***ng, the fireplace surround is brick-look tile in rust, tan and gray, laid flat along the sides with the header pieces set vertically above the black insert. Around it, a white painted mantel on simple square legs and vertical white paneling running to the ceiling keep the rest of the wall clean, and windows on both sides fill it with daylight. A framed print, a vase of pink flowers and a couple of small white accents are all the mantel holds, and it has room for whatever the season brings.

Balance is the story on this great-room wall. In the Oxfordshire, a Ground Breaker Homes build in Cu***ng, the fireplace is the substantial center: light stone rising to a ceiling lined with dark beams, with a dark mantel and a black firebox. What keeps that mass from overwhelming the room is the pair of arched niches on either side, each with dark floating shelves over pale base cabinets and a warm metal picture light above. The arches soften the edges, the dark shelves echo the beams, and the branching chandelier ties the warm metal together overhead.

A hood that looks right head-on has to look right from the side too. This angle on a Ground Breaker Homes kitchen shows how much depth the smooth arched hood really has, projecting over the range as a full block with the arch cut into its face and the side plane catching a different light. The range beneath has a pale front, stainless elements and warm metal controls that match the drawer pulls on either side. Those banks of pale drawers put storage within a step of the cooktop, and a pale veined slab runs behind the whole wall.

In this custom build in Indianola, Ground Breaker Homes carried one deep, dark tone across the office walls, the open shelving and the desk base. The pale work surface runs the width of the built-in and is the one bright plane in the room. A warm metal cup pull on the drawer is the only hardware in view. On the shelves, a wood bowl, a few books and a woven basket bring warmth against the dark background. Storage above, a drawer below, and room to spread out in between.
