The widest diameter single trunk tree known, measuring 29.2 ft. "dbh" 4.5 ft. above ground. I found this coast redwood with Thomas Hahn in Oct. 2010 at Jedediah Smith park but we didn't return as hoped. In 2015 a Save the Redwoods League board member John M. discovered the diameter of 29.2 feet and 28,000 cu. ft. volume. Huckleberry hides most of perimeter. The man in this photo is Chris Atkins, a redwood measuring expert noted in THE WILD TREES (2007). The ground circumference exceeds any Sequoiadendron and Mexico's famous cypress which is a multi-trunk formation. The world's tallest tree and widest tree are both in Redwood National and State parks. I heard there's a wider coast redwood but haven't seen any photo documentation or public confirmation from any arborist or redwood measuring expert yet.
