I just started a commission to paint the Los Angeles area in the style of this painting. This will be my first piece heading to “The City Of Angeles”. There is always a little voice on my shoulder when I am doing a commission that whispers, will the client like this, is this what the client wants? It takes a week and me getting pi$$ed at myself before I accept that the client wants my creativity, my imagination, and my skill.

It sounds obvious, but to an artist a commission can be stifling. Something similar to writers block.

So, I’m going to dive in head first, tear it up, and trust myself….I promise!!

I will keep you posted!

I am very proud to have received an HONORABLE MENTION in Artists Magazine’s Best of Acrylic publication. There were a lot of artists competing for a spot in the magazine as it is a national publication. I am very happy with myself, but as many who know me know, now, I want more. So now I’m running and gunning for that first place. I am very grateful, but now, fired up!

“The Lost Door”
48” by 36”, acrylic on canvas with palette knives.

We have all lost someone close in our lives that we wish we could see again, or lost relationships that ran their course, but for a time made us feel whole. Like these double doors spending their lifetime together, yet their time together could not last forever.

I imagined the steadfast double doors of a barn, their beauty, nobility, and strength. The series I am currently working on is centered around portals that reveal the beauty of the world we picture when we look through them. As I was painting this piece I was filled with admiration for the nobility of a simple barn door, and I imagined the things these barn doors must have seen, and the important work they did.

I imagined the sadness of a double door becoming one and the loss of these once dependable partners.

Yet, they still reveal such beauty and hold their romance and beauty of their own, even when two become one.
