Only in Michigan would winter get so serious that even the state troopers need seasonal housing.
You are cruising down I 96 thinking everything looks peaceful. Snow covered trees. Quiet highway. Fresh powder. Then suddenly you see what appears to be an igloo. Cute. Festive. Very Pure Michigan.
Wrong.
That is not an ice fishing shack. That is not an art installation. That is a fully operational speed enforcement bunker.
Somewhere inside that handcrafted snow fortress is a trooper sipping coffee, radar gun in hand, waiting for someone who thought 83 felt reasonable on a “clear” winter day. The lake effect may be unpredictable, but that radar is not.
You have to respect the commitment. Most states hide behind bushes. Michigan builds Arctic infrastructure. If it snows two feet overnight, we do not cancel plans. We upgrade the hiding spots.
Just remember, if you see a perfectly symmetrical igloo on the side of the highway with suspiciously good WiFi reception, ease off the gas.
Winter may be brutal, but the enforcement is insulated.
