Wondering why your pool turned green even though you've been adding 3" chlorine tablets?

The short answer: your CYA (stabilizer) may be too high.

Every 3" stabilized chlorine tablet adds chlorine, but it also adds cyanuric acid (CYA). On average, each tablet can increase CYA by about 3 ppm in a 10,000-gallon pool.

Now think about using 3–4 tablets every week. Over the course of a month, your CYA can climb quickly. As CYA gets too high, your chlorine becomes less effective, making it much harder to keep algae under control—even if your test kit shows you have chlorine in the water.

The result? A green pool, wasted chemicals, and frustration.

🔧 Don't Forget Your Pool's Sacrificial Anode! 🔧

Did you know your pool has a small part that quietly protects thousands of dollars' worth of equipment?

A sacrificial anode is designed to corrode so your pool heater, pump, salt system, lights, and other metal components don't have to. It's one of the cheapest ways to help prevent expensive corrosion repairs.

⚠️ If your anode is completely gone, your equipment could become the next target for corrosion.

Here are a few tips:
✅ Inspect your anode at least once a year.
✅ Saltwater pools should have it checked every 6 months.
✅ Replace it when it's about 50% consumed.
✅ If it wears out unusually fast, it may indicate a bonding, stray voltage, or water chemistry issue that should be addressed.

A new sacrificial anode costs far less than replacing a heater heat exchanger or other pool equipment.
