It has come to my attention that Ms. Sarah Pike has been making false and unsubstantiated accusations regarding the Home Builders Association of Tennessee PAC, the Ocoee Region Builders Association PAC, and Commissioner Milan Blake.
Let me be very clear: While ORBA supports Commissioner Blake he has never received PAC money from ORBA PAC or HBAT PAC. He has also not received campaign contributions from developers. These are not opinions. These are facts that can be verified through publicly available campaign finance disclosures on the State of Tennessee’s website.
It is irresponsible to make public accusations without checking the facts first. Campaign finance reports are open records, and anyone can review them. Repeating false claims does nothing but mislead the public and create unnecessary division in our community.
It is also important to understand how development actually works. County commissioners do not control whether a private landowner chooses to sell their property. Farmers and landowners have the right to sell their land if they choose to do so. Builders and developers do not “steal” property, nor do they force anyone to sell. Local zoning laws, planning regulations, infrastructure availability, and property rights determine where and how development can occur.
ORBA supports responsible growth, responsible infrastructure, attainable housing, and high-quality construction standards. We advocate for policies that help families, workers, and future homeowners achieve the American Dream. We also stand against unnecessary government overreach and burdensome regulations that make housing less affordable for everyone.
ORBA is not in favor of careless development. We support builders who build responsibly, stand behind their work, honor their warranties, and contribute positively to the community. We also believe that affordable and attainable housing matters, because every family deserves the opportunity to own or live in a safe, quality home.
What is disappointing is when someone enjoys the benefits of homeownership and property rights but then wants to deny those same opportunities to others. Responsible housing growth is not the enemy. Misinformation is.
Before making public accusations about PAC contributions, builders, developers, or elected officials, people should take the time to verify the facts. The records are available. The truth is easy to find.
ORBA will continue to advocate for responsible growth, property rights, infrastructure, quality construction, and the American Dream for everyone.
