This time I remembered the small harvest basket! Greenies were for dinner. Purples, too big to eat fresh, so beans shucked and frozen to add into soups. I thought about dehydrating them but I know soon enough (like next month) I'll start making soups. August, the time in the garden where we almost can't keep up with the harvests ✨✨ Tell me, what are you harvesting like crazy, or can't seen to keep up with?

Jokes on me for not grabbing my harvest basket 😆 I know better, yet I do it all the time! Garden harvests in August pretty much always require a basket! It's there a daily task you do that you “know” you should do a certain way but you continue not to?!

That bundle burning in my hand, it's lavender and rosemary, harvested during the heat wave at the end of June and hung to dry in my apothecary. It is now burning over my whirlpool bath tub in my basement.

First full circle moment. From the garden to the harvest. From the harvest to the apothecary. From the apothecary to this.

There's a reason I chose these two specifically. Rosemary has long been used for cleansing and purification, clearing a space energetically before something intentional begins. Lavender brings calm, peace, and a softness that settles the nervous system almost immediately. Together they're doing exactly what I needed them to do, clearing the space and setting the tone before I sink into the water for a relaxing soak and bubbles!

And I'm a Cancer. A water sign. My whirlpool bath tub is basically a non-negotiable part of my self-care. 🦀💧

This is what seasonal living actually feels like. Not an aesthetic. A practice.

I have a bit of work to do in my root vegetable bed…Meet my carrots. 🥕😂

I harvested my root vegetable bed today (along with a whole lot of other garden tasks) and these little guys had some thoughts of their own, growing in a different direction. Stunted. Multi-legged. Not exactly what I had in mind when I planted them in the spring.

And here's the thing — I don't even care. They're going straight into a coleslaw with a beautiful head of cabbage (which isn't perfect either 🤣). It'll be delicious, chopped up means I only need the flavor not the perfect look.

But the bed itself is telling me something. Root vegetables need deep, loose, well-amended soil to grow straight and strong, and chest my root vegetable raised bed needs done serious soil work. So before I plant another round of carrots, radishes, and turnips for the fall cool season, I'll be getting in there and doing the deeper work the soil is asking for.

It kind of hot me as a great metaphor: Sometimes the best laid plans of one season don't produce what we expected. The conditions weren't quite right. Something was going on beneath the surface I couldn't fully see. The growth came out sideways, a little stunted, not quite the shape I had in mind.

And in life that's not failure. That's data. The season showed me what the soil needs, now I amend, now I go deeper. And the next round of crops (or whatever you're working at!) gets better because of what this one revealed.

So here's to my multi-legged carrots, continuing to teach me lessons along the way, just like life does ☺️✨
