Introducing Phone Gallery - Cleveland's smallest gallery - annexed to the front of Russ' Auto Care in the Waterloo Arts District. Originally conceived in 2013 by artist Ivana Medukic of 'Project Pop-Up Galleries' and freelance designer Ali Lukacsy-Love, Phone Gallery demonstr

ates the transformation of an otherwise vacant and underutilized "space" - in this case, an abandoned phone booth - into an inventive place for art display.
.......
Until the Phone Gallery was transformed in summer 2013 by Ivana, Ali, and local contractor Doug Holmes, it was utility-less and phone-less. Now, Phone Gallery is always open thanks to an electrical source (light!) and its inherently public and highly visible location just west of E.156th Street on Waterloo Road.
.......
In Spring 2014, Phone Gallery held its inaugural exhibition. It's mission is exhibit emerging artists who may not have a portfolio of work to fill a "normal" sized space, including students of all ages........
Phone Gallery is currently accepting applications in this open call from Cleveland-based artists to exhibit in the box in a rotating 1-month long solo exhibition. There are no deadlines and applications are reviewed on a rolling basis. Visual 2-D and 3-D pieces are encouraged. An outlet internal to the box is available for those submissions requiring electricity. APPLY HERE: http://www.mycreativecompass.org/Employment/Calls-for-Artists/Phone-Gallery-CALL-FOR-ARTISTS

Direct all questions and submit an application to exhibit art to: Ali Lukacsy-Love, Curator [email protected]

DISCLAIMER: Phone Gallery is not liable for theft or damage. The renovation of the box is designed to be tamper-proof, however this is a public gallery that is "always open".

Phone Gallery is a volunteer run project, initially funded by grants from the Kresge Foundation and Cuyahoga Arts and Culture.

Ian Rapp’s mixed media installation “Lost in Paradaze” opened during the March “Walk All Over Waterloo” event and is on view 24/7 through the end of April 2026!

Photographs cannot do the beauty of her etched glass justice, so be sure to stop down to the western end of Waterloo (across the street from Praxis and next door to artiCLE) to see it in person - and get lost in mediation as the artist tempts her audiences to do!

Laura Tuokkola is an emerging artist with a real passion for painting and sculpture. Check out her latest work, “Eye Put A Spell On You”, now on view in Phone Gallery in the Waterloo Arts District through early March 2026.

The piece is eye catching and presents its viewer with a challenge - to stop looking so much at our cellphones and look around our everyday environments for the real beauty. Sounds like a good new year resolution!

Check out the latest exhibit, “The Leaf” by photographer Bob Palinkas!

He took a photography class in high school and then picked up the art again decades later. He has been a member of the Cleveland Print Room for 1.5 years and shared a lot of his knowledge (some passed along from his photographer dad) while installing this piece. On view through the end of August 2025.

Check out Marlene Weinstein’s exhibit “How It Was” inside Phone Gallery for the months of May and June 2025! Her paintings chronicle the evolution of the telephone in a meta exhibit!

Marlene’s journey to an artful practice is interesting: she retired from a career in the medical profession and went back to school for her MFA. She now paints and draws and teaching in both disciplines.
