The year is 1984. The longest game of baseball was played... 8 hours and 25 innings later the Chicago White Sox won the game against the Milwaukee Brewers, 7-6. You only needed $2.50 to get into the movie theaters. The Austin Company collaborated with the National Broadcasting Company for the construction of NBC's Studio 11 Complex in Burbank, CA.

April showers bring May flowers... and a whole lot of mud! But don't worry, we've got it covered (literally)!

During rainy seasons, we prioritize safety first by:
- Monitoring the weather forecast closely: This ensures you're dressed appropriately for the day and wearing protective gear.
- Checking ground stability: Spring thaw can make the ground unstable. Before moving heavy equipment, check the ground for stability to prevent tipping or rolling over.
- Protecting electrical equipment and concrete foundations: Shield them from the elements to avoid damage.

Throwback to 1991... when flannel was cool, the World Wide Web was just going public, and the Super Nintendo hit the scene. That same year, The Austin Company wrapped up a major milestone project for Universal Flavors, delivering a 58,000 SF office and production facility in Haasrode, Belgium, replacing their former Brussels plant.

Last week, Austin's Cleveland office took Architecture Week beyond drawings and design by bringing it into our offices and our culture. From a friendly round of Jeopardy, to a team site visit and a custom coffee bar for all to enjoy, it was a great reminder that strong spaces are built by even stronger teams. Nearly a century after The Austin Company constructed the Mars Candy Factory, the Chicago facility has been designated a Chicago Landmark as it enters its next chapter.

Originally constructed in 1928, the facility stands as a lasting example of how industrial buildings can combine function with architectural character. Its landmark designation recognizes not only its role in Chicago’s manufacturing history, but also the enduring value of thoughtful industrial design.

As the site enters its next chapter, this designation ensures the preservation of its most defining features—reinforcing that well‑designed facilities can outlive their original purpose and continue to shape communities for generations.

Fun Fact: This building is referred to locally as “The Austin Factory” for its location, but the name coincidentally mirrors Austin as the builder.
