Tampa Bay is now the epicenter of Florida’s locally acquired dengue cases, with 33 cases across Hillsborough and Pinellas counties, accounting for more than 80% of the state’s 41 cases.

And here’s the wild part: during an earlier summer surge, one South Tampa mosquito trap collected about 18,000 mosquitoes after dry weather followed by heavy rain triggered a major hatch. 🦟😳

Mosquito-control crews are now ramping up ground treatments and low-altitude aerial spraying, with Pasco County crews assisting Hillsborough.

Officials say mosquitoes can develop from egg to adult in just days during summer heat, and dengue-carrying mosquitoes can breed in something as small as a bottle cap of standing water.

So the message is simple: check your yard every few days and dump anything holding water. Buckets, toys, plant saucers, gutters, all of it.

Every time we get a stretch of afternoon rain, the roach calls start. They're not coming in because the house is dirty. They're coming in because the yard got wet and inside is dry.

Perimeter treatment is what keeps them from making the trip. We hit the foundation line, the shrub beds, the soffits and the entry points, and we stay on it through the wet season.

There are worse offices. 🌴

Spent part of the afternoon on the lake, clearing cobwebs and egg sacks from a customer’s boathouse while the clouds rolled across the Florida sky.

No heavy-handed treatment over the water. No need to kill everything with six or eight legs. Just some good old-fashioned cleanup as part of managing the pests that were actually causing the problem.

Sometimes the best part of a job happens when you take one last look around.

One extremely impressive pull-up later… I discovered I had an audience about six inches above my head. 🕷️

Probably a good reminder to look up before using outdoor workout equipment in Florida.
