🌳 TREE TIP THURSDAY! 🌳

Just because a tree still has a few green leaves doesn’t always mean it’s healthy. 👀

During the Texas summer heat, stressed or declining trees may start showing warning signs like:

🍂 Leaves turning brown or dropping early
🌿 Dead limbs in the canopy
🪵 Cracks, cavities, or peeling bark

A leaning tree isn’t automatically dangerous. 🌳
Some trees naturally grow at an angle. What is more concerning is a tree that has recently started leaning, has disturbed soil around the roots, cracked ground, or visible root movement.

This is something Texas homeowners should know before letting anyone put a chainsaw to a large tree.

Tree removal is not the same risk as mowing grass, trimming hedges, or installing mulch.

Workers can be dealing with thousands of pounds of wood, chainsaws, falling limbs, climbing, heavy equipment and nearby power lines.

And the danger is very real.

OSHA data covering 2011–2017 recorded 521 occupational fatalities among tree trimmers and pruners, an average of about 74 deaths per year. Falls, falling objects and electrical contact were major causes.

Even more important: simply hearing “Yes, we're insured” isn't enough.

Ask for proof.

Before hiring someone for tree work:

• Ask for a current Certificate of Insurance
• Confirm the policy covers the actual tree work being performed
• Ask about workers' compensation when applicable
• Call the insurance company or agent and verify the policy is active
• Make sure the business name on the policy matches who you're hiring

A cheap tree removal can become extremely expensive when something goes wrong.

What Is a Dead Tree?
